A Favorite Toy of Mine as a Kid, Seemingly Totally Unchanged Over a Decade Later
15 years ago or so, I had one of these as a kid. I was recently birthday shopping for a nephew of mine, and wondered if they still made these. To my surprise, not only are ornithopters still made, but this seems 100% identical to the one I had as a kid, even down to the packaging. I guess if it isn't broke, don't fix it.After spending an afternoon flying it around, our little bird made several crash landings, and was totally fine. My only complaint is the tail seems a bit flimsy, particularly in the hinge where you angle it. Overall I think most any kid will have a fun time playing with this thing, and its much cheaper than a drone or RC plane.

The Schilling Tim bird flying toys are durable and easy to handle offering hours of great fun!
This is such a fun way to get your kiddos out-of-doors. It is very durable, easy to handle, and flaps around like a real bird,—so I bought two of them this order after I saw how much fun my other grandchildren had with them.

Worth 5 Cents, Not $23
Broke on the third attempt to get it to fly instead of diving straight into the floor. After third, little piece that kept the wings from flapping while winding broke off inside. After 50 years, instead of this company learning how to make a better product, they've just made it cheaper and incredibly fragile. Not for kids, cats, dogs, teens or adults. No one should buy this over-priced made in China piece of plastic garbage.

Flying Tim Bird
My son played with this toy 25 years ago and it gave him many hours of fun, we went through two birds as he played with it so much, I don't recall what happened to the first bird but the second one we still had in our closet. I brought out the Tim bird for my 5 year old grandson to play with the other day, but unfortunately the band inside broke after about an hour of playing with it, but in all fairness the band was 25 yrs old! I am ordering a new bird today as my grandson was thrilled with the toy as was his father. If you have a large space free of buildings and trees where you can fly this it's a really fun toy. A small child would need the assistants of an adult to wind it up and throw it, my grandson however at age 5 needed no assistance at all.

Great fun for all!
I bought this for my 3 y/o grandson. He and his 34 y/o daddy love flying this bird. We had it at camp this past weekend, it went high up into the trees and almost made it to the lake. We are not lake front campers. LOL They had so much fun that they took it home with them. Great memories for sure!

An elegant but simple toy of flight.
This is a most surprising product that seems sturdier than it looks. This was another gift for my 7 year old grandson. With alot of cranks on the propulsion rubber band and a little wind blowing to assist the aerodynamic properties, this bird actually flies on its own when launched from the hand. It is somewhat realistic flight, especially when it lands in a tree.

Beautiful AND fun to use
It's not easy to purchase toys for my eight-going-on-twenty-eight year old grandson. He loves his video games and has outgrown Nerf. He was strangely fascinated however by the mechanics of this simple wind-up toy, practicing the amount of wind up, the variable of his pitch and aim, and running to retrieve it. I bought three, one for him and his neighbor friends, and they had a pleasant afternoon gliding them. They hold up well too. This would make a great beach toy, and since they are quite pretty, you could keep one around for young visitors without feeling cluttered.

Disappointed
I got literally use from it. I wound it up like the instructions said, pushed the red switch, it flew a little and the red switch came off and fell inside the toy. I had to fish it out and tried to reassemble it with no success. Now it's just laying in my apt unusable. Very poor quality

Muy divertido
Un juguete fantástico, pero hay que tener cuidado ya que es algo frágil y podría romperse.

A must have for your kids!
Always been a fan of Tim Bird. They are not easily available in India (though they are easily available in quite a few european countries), I had one as a kid and wanted my son to experience one as well. What's unique about the bird (apart from the cheer and fascination it brings in Children's eyes) is the ease with which you can explain mechanics of flying (and help your kids pronounce ornithopters). A design originally adapted from Leonardo Da Vinci, its a welcome change from the remote control toys that kids play with today! Learning with fun can't get better!!
