Toshiba 4TB Canvio Flex Portable External Hard Drive for Mac, Windows PC and Tablet use, compatible with most USB-C and USB-A devices, Silver (HDTX140ESCAA)

Needed a decent size hard drive to back up my Mac Mini using “time machine.” Easy to reformat; powered off the USB data lead so no additional power or cable required. Nice and small unit which runs quietly. Telltale blue LED so you know when it’s active. More than a couple of £1s but good value for money and a decent capacity.

Working like a champ, as mentioned in other reviews the speed is around 130-140MB/s. Bear in mind this is a mechanical drive, not SSD - if you want big storage for a low price that's still the best way to go. Just don't bang it around would be my advice. Seen a few people complain their stopped working or frequently disconnected. Hasn't happened to me yet, I'd just advise to ensure that your USB port is providing enough power for this - a laptop (especially on battery) may struggle to keep this running. A powered USB hub might help in those situations. Worth the money, imo.

Was looking for a compact large storage drive for backing up important files and Toshiba offered a perfect fit and price point compared to the cost of purchasing an equivalent capacity 4TB SSD. For this kind of backup, I felt I did not need the speed of an SSD and therefore this portable HDD was more than sufficient for the task at hand. Used it twice already to back up my work and whilst of course it is not the fastest drive available it completes the task quick enough and the compact and sturdy outer case looks neat on the desk. This is not my first Toshiba disk - quality speaks.

Very neat and great but a little just a little slow to respond to commands after sleep

I've used this portable external hard drive for over a year, and I've never had any issues with it. It's fast, reliable, and has excellent compatibility between my computers and different operating systems. It's easy to set up and use, with minimal noise and good speed.

Bought this as a back up Time Machine for iMac 27, foolishly I haven't done this before and was getting paranoid about a potential computer failure. I read many reviews of what to use as an iMac back up drive, saw this mentioned as one of top 10 in a few reviews and gave it a punt at the price. Haven't needed to get any tech support so can't review on that basis but after watching 2-3 Youtube vids, found the partitioning and set up process pretty simple. it currently sits on top of the base stand below the brushed silver iMac screen and looks good as it is also brushed silver, has a little blue light that comes on occasionally to let you know its working in the back ground, I can hear it doing its thing every now and again but hardly noticeable, was a good price for 4Gb so pleased with that, doubt I will be using it for portability so can't review on that yet. Not paranoid about computer failure anymore, happy so far.

I had to upgade from an old external usb dive, this one came in trumps due to the fast speed, the price and also the warrenty, so far its been excellent, also windows 11 installed in a heart beat from the drive! A++++ I would recomend it any day! Its SOLID!....Save some money, and time with its fast speeds and buy it! My life is no longer being waisted due to theese new speeds in all areas of computing. Got two drives. Performance of exfat is not as good as ntfs. Under Windows 10 it causes some freezes and slugish. A slow response when accesing multiple files at once. But IT IS NOT THE DRIVE. It is the format. Native format is the best for windows. Just format it in NTFS if you are under Windows. No more hickups. Extremely fast. Awesome drive. Ive tried other manufacturers and i would buy Toshiba Canvio Flex again.
