In case you're not aware, this trade paperback is probably not the first one you should read when tackling Marvel's Infinity saga. If you want to get the full picture, you should start with the countdown to Infinity Gauntlet (most notably "Silver Surfer - Rebirth of Thanos"), then "Infinity Gauntlet" and I would also recommend "Infinity Gauntlet Aftermath" for the sake of completion. After Infinity Gauntlet comes Infinity War. Up to this point, Thanos acquired the six infinity gems making him essentially "god" but he was eventually defeated by Adam Warlock, earth's heroes and a series of cosmic entities. At the end of Infinity Gauntlet, Warlock possesses the infinity gauntlet, is able to reverse Thanos' finger snap and Thanos is exiled. After the Infinity Gauntlet (events described in "Infinity Gauntlet - Aftermath"), Warlock is put on trial and the Living Tribunal declares that Warlock needs to split up ownership of the gems. He then decides to keep the Soul gem for himself, while sharing the other gems with the newly formed Infinity Watch - himself, Gamora, Pip the Troll, Drax the Destroyer, Moondragon and a mysterious sixth element. This Infinity War TPB runs at about 400 pages and collects Infinity War 1-6 (the bulk of the TPB, this is the main story itself at about ~40 pages per issue), Warlock and the Infinity Watch 7-10 (tie-ins, picking up right after Infinity Gauntlet Aftermath) and Marvel Comics Presents 108-111. Focusing on the main story, Infinity War, what we have here is the return of Magus (not a surprise, as he is featured on the back cover), who is Warlock's "evil twin", essentially. Magus has acquired a mysterious source of power, has created an army of doppelgangers (all "evil twins" of earth's heroes, Thanos, etc.) and has a plan to wrest the infinity gems away from Warlock and his Infinity Watch. For me, this is the highlight, the best story in the entire Infinity saga trilogy, as it has a little bit of everything - Warlock, the Infinity Watch and Thanos on one side, earth's heroes with infiltrated doppelgangers on the other, Doctor Doom and Kang working together, as well as another group led by Galactus. All of these groups are trying to understand who is behind this and what is happening, but somehow their decisions and actions are playing into Magus' plans. Anything else would be a spoiler, so let's leave it here. This is a great story, epic and beautifully illustrated. After this one, you'll want to continue the saga with "Infinity War Aftermath", which sets the stage for "Infinity Crusade", the third part of the trilogy.
