How soft is the softest one? i have a student with cp. she has very limited use of her hands and i'm looking for something to help strengthen them.

I am not sure how one would gauge softness. I would mention that these gel-like filled balls do have a textured "skin" on them so they would not slip easily out of hand.

What material are these made of?

The product description is " Made from non-toxic thermoplastic elastomer, these exercise balls are safe and suitable for both kids and adults". They are squeezable with each one a different resistance. Hope this helps.

Are they solid or air filled?

Not air and not real solid they come in four different strengths it's like a rubber jelly type. I can say this they are great to use.

Great for hand therapy

These balls are great. My husband needs to increase the strength in his hands and these work like a charm. The fact that you get 4 balls and are all different strengths is great as he can increase as he needs to increase his hand therapy.
