## Description

OLYMPUS M.Zuiko ED 7-14mm F2.8 Pro

Review: I'm in love with this lens. This is by far the widest lens I've ever owned, so getting introduced to the 7-14mm perspective has been pretty amazing for landscapes, the image quality is stellar, and the build quality is great. Pros: 1 - First and foremost, IQ is great. I was a little bit worried about getting a zoom over a fixed UWA lens, but since this is the top of Olympus' lens lineup in that range I was hoping the quality would be great, and it delivered in spades. 2 - Nice and small. It's still a pretty good size for a m4/3 lens, but compared to DSLR lenses it's tiny. The other day I walked about 4 miles with an E-M1/40-150/2.8 on one shoulder, and I carried this lens on my hip attached to an E-P5. The wide lens and compact camera were barely even noticeable. 3 - Manual focus clutch is super convenient. Since m4/3 lenses don't normally come with an AF/MF switch, switching to MF through the menu system is usually a pain that involves taking your eye away from the viewfinder. With the clutch right there on the focus ring, it's easy to do without looking. 4 - Weather sealing when paired with the E-M1 or E-M5 II. I've never needed this so far, but it's nice to know it's there. Cons: 1 - If you're not used to wide lenses (as I wasn't), this may come as a surprise, but you can't fit a regular lens cap or filter on this. It comes with a big saucer-looking lens cap that snaps over top of the entire hood/front lens element combo, and because the front element is curved there's nowhere to fit a filter. 2 - I'm not sure if this is just my lens, but the manual focus clutch action seems a little bit flimsy, mechanically speaking. Every now and then I'll go to slide it back, but only one side of the ring will snap back and I'll have to cajole the other side over. It's a very minor issue, but occasionally annoying. On the whole, I'm very glad to have this in my bag.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How does this compare to the Panasonic 7-14 M4/3 lens?**
A: I've got the Panasonic 7-14mm and have used this lens on the same camera (GX85), the Olympus lets in more light f2.8 vs f4 (which f4 is still a VERY fast lens) and does not exhibit the very-noticeable purple light glare artifacts like the Panasonic does. The Panasonic is smaller, MUCH lighter and easier to travel with, it also costs MUCH less. If weight and money are not significant, buy the Olympus; I prefer the Panasonic. People say matching the brand of lens to the camera results in better focusing results - I have not noticed any difference using the Olympus lens on my Panasonic camera though.

**Q: Somebody knows the UV and polarizer filters diameter?**
A: This lens is not designed to accept filters of any sort. Also, you shouldn't use a polarizer on a wide angle lens such as this.

**Q: Without a thread to attach an nd or cp filter, is there any other solution, such as a filter "cap?"**
A: There are a few people making adapters for the Nisi or Lee filter system. Try google.

**Q: Will this lense fit my Olympus EP1?**
A: This lens can fit Olympus EP1.
