The tire industry stopped using sodium benzoate as tire preservative because their workers were dying from leukemia in high numbers. They reversed the trend by stopping the use of sodium benzoate. I have no idea about the clarifying, that you'll have to research on your own. What I do know is that I have scalp rosacea & this shampoo is very calming & cleansing for my scalp without drying it like so many are. I've been using it for a year & like it. My brother not only uses in on his scalp roascea but on his face because of the rosacea in his beard.

Is this shampoo good for oily hair? leave hair hard and dry

yes...this shampoo will help get rid of oily hair/oily scalp. It leaves hair soft and not too dry. I have salt & pepper hair, and gray hair tends to be a bit dry anyway. This shampoo doesn't make it any worse than any other shampoo. Your scalp will feel great after using this product. It has a nice clean smell that does not linger in the hair.

Does this contain at least 5% tea tree oil? This can't be determined by reading the label. Research was done using a 5% shampoo.

Definitely not. Honestly I think they are selling this with some mint shampoo in it. I started buying this at Sprouts and it actually smells like it has tea tree in it now. I think this one is a scam.
