Oldest daughter is a bit shy and found it hard to settle in at new school (aged 4 3/4). She tended to be a bit grumpy when both adults and other children were being friendly to her, and then be sad that she didn't have people to play with. This book is very positive and has really helped her come out of her shell. It is entirely based around what you can influence - the best way to have friends is to be friendly; it's good to be friendly to everyone (not just your "best friends"); there are lots of different ways to be friendly and people can have all sorts of different friends. It's surprisingly detailed and highlighted some aspects of friendship that I wouldn't have thought about otherwise. We really like it and the slightly silly characters don't detract at all.

We like the advice it gives (dad says: it's not a masterwork though, but my son asks me to read it every night)
