2 radios didn't work right out of the box...verified it got power (13.5 volts) but, would not turn on, not even light up. Am I missing something?

Same situation, 2 radios, first unit i cut all holes and installed, no power, bench tested no power up, returned, received second unit, bench tested with fully charged battery no power up had to keep because i installed speakers already, have some over priced speakers to show for.

Do i need an external am/fm antenna?

Yes. Without an antenna you can only pick up a couple stations.....

What are the measurements of the radio face? Trying to determine what water proof cover to buy for it.

Find a different stereo to buy. This one is junk.

Can you run from this radio!!!! Straight out of box it's dead. Wo t even light up. And yes it has power to it.
