The package was factory wrapped ie: not a return, but I found the instructions a bit sparse - diagrams with no explanations or trouble shooting. It is easy to set up and has clear instructions. It is bulky but that can't be helped as it has a large capacity. The carpets smell once this has been used but its not unpleasant and clears up once they dry. My only issue is that this doesn't get right up to the edges so I also had to buy a spot cleaner to do the edges and the stairs.
