Silly question, but do you need to open the packets and pour the contents into the blue apple container, or just put the packet inside unopened?

No question is silly; it’s better to ask than remain misguided. Please take my advice from a person who has been using these for ages with nothing but positive results: DO NOT OPEN THE LITTLE PACKET! You will have nothing but a powdery mess on your hands and in your refrigerator. All you need to do is pop open a Bluapple, place the unopened packet in the bottom, snap on the top of the Bluapple, and toss it into your crisper. Keep any remaining packets tightly zipped in the package in which they arrived. You don’t want them exposed to air for any length of time or else they may be rendered unusable.

One suggestion to keeping your produce fresher: The manufacturer suggests ensuring the Bluapples are stacked high in the drawer because that’s where the gasses collect from the aging fruits and vegetables. The Bluapples need to absorb that gas to keep everything fresh and won’t work well if buried underneath your produce.

my kale and parsley are turning yellow with blue apple in veggie crisper drawer   why?

I don't know for sure, but I don't think they emit as much ethylene gas as many fruits and some vegetables do. I would try the Debbie Meyer "green bags" to keep kale and parsley fresh longer in the fridge. Those bags absorb ethylene gas too and seem to work really well with veggies. I prefer the green bags for most of our veggies and the blue apple for our fruit. Hope that helps!

The blue eggs have little packets inside which you change every 3 months. It doesn't say what the ingredients of the packets are though.

Can I refill them ? how much would you say the effect of one blue apple last ?

Yes, there is an official refill for this product.  One apple lasts about 3 months, then you empty out the pellets and refill the apple with the official refill product and it lasts another 3 months.  I LOVE my Bluapple--it works GREAT for keeping produce fresh 3-5 days longer than without.
