The information online say for treatment of external ear.  Do you apply this medication inside the ear as well?

In response to your question concerning ZYMOX OTIC HC 1.0% Enzymatic Solution I used on my Labrador Retriever. Here are the directions as written. Shake before each use. Apply liberally to un-cleaned ear, filling ear canal. Gently massage and work into infected area. Wipe to remove excess. Apply once a day for 7 days, 14 days for chronic infections. DO NOT CLEAN EARS BEFORE OR DURING TREATMENTS. I ordered a 4 fluid ounce bottle to get started and have used approx. 3/4 of it with 1/4 left. As mentioned I have always relied on my vet over the years with the her selling me MOMETAMAX to use at $38.87 for a 15g bottle which never seemed to solve the ear issues that would come and go. After our problem was cleared up I use once a week EPI-OTIC EAR CLEANSER which maintains my dogs inner ears and keeps them nice and clean. At first I was a little skeptical that the product would work as advertised along with other comments posted, but all I can say it sure did. Which has brought much needed relief to my canine daughter and she seems so much happier having no more ear irritation. Hope this comment helps in some way.

First application, his ear seems more red and lots of gunk rising up, is this OK?

I have been using Zymox Otic products for years with our dogs.  It works like gangbusters at getting the impacted debris to break up and work its way out of the ear canal...that’s the brownish-blackish gunk.  When the ears are bad, they can be red from the inflammation, which is why dogs scratch and shake their heads.  It’s painful!  After several days, there should be less gunk coming out and the redness should subside.  Just wipe around the outside of the ear to clean off the wax debris that comes out, but don’t use any other “cleaners” when using Zymox or you risk killing the helpful enzymes.  If the infection is bad, and they often are, follow the directions and use for the 14 day cycle.  Good luck to you and your pup!

Might as well get the largest one or the size that is most cost efficient. For any external otitis (make sure it’s not mites) this product works very well as long as you follow the instructions as well as follow the course (7 days for small infection, 14 days for more aggressive, as per label). Our Lab is prone to ear infections soon as it gets warm and humid every year and we’ve successfully given her ears relief using this product, plus the big bottle has quite some time before it expires for maintenance and subsequent infections.
