Gone are years of brown residue both in the drip-over arm as well as the brew basket after just a single use, and as an added bonus, I poured that pot of brown solution into my stainless travel coffee mug that had also been stained brown over the years... after letting it sit for five minutes and then just giving it a light scrub with a dishcloth, BAM, essentially as good as new, as shown in the pic. Been having a hard time figuring out what the difference is between these products. I have a Gaggia Classic Semi Auto Espresso.** A: Cleancaf is to remove oils and a little scale. Dezscal is to get rid of heavy lime scale. So if you live in a hard water area like me, you may need both. **Q: Better than Vinegar?** A: Much, much, MUCH better. I live in a bad hard water area (intermountain west), and have cleaned my coffee machines with vinegar for years. As a result, I've had to buy a new coffeemaker about every 2-3 years! The Cleancaf really does clean better- our 1-year-old coffeemaker is now burbling away exactly like it did when it was new- and that's after only using it ONCE, after a year of using vinegar. You would not believe the crap that this stuff pulled out of the inner workings of the machine! If you have hard water, this is a must-have. It really, really works well! :) **Q: Is this acidic? I've got a Simplex tea kettle, and you can't use acid decalcifier on the tin.** A: The package says Cleancaf contains sodium carbonate. Sodium carbonate is a basic material (not acidic). So, I think it is not acidic. **Q: I have an old uncleaned drip coffee maker. Will this work or any other product recommendations? Or should I buy new coffee maker & keep it cleaned?** A: I believe that is the only thing wrong with the old coffee maker is scale build up from use without cleaning, this product will work really well. If there are bigger problems with the machine, maybe not. But for the price of product, is certainly worth a try. I have a Cuisinart Thermal Drip Coffee maker that I clean "every time the Brita timer" on my water filter tells me to change that filter. My coffeemaker must be 3 years old now and I have hard water that "eats up" coffeemakers usually. Coffee was taking longer to brew and always reside was left inside our coffee mugs. We have always periodically cleaned with vinegar on the clean cycle. But, after doing it a few times in a row, the problem wasn't getting better. We started looking at new machines. I decided to try this product as a last resort and I am so glad I did. The difference is outstanding. These pics show what the solution looks like after I used the product 1 time. The water is blue before going through the clean cycle and was so dirty when it finished the cleaning process. I was shocked. I then did another clean cycle with another packet and the water came out the same blue color it started with. The machine works better now and coffee tastes better with no residue being left in the cup. Saved me from buying a new machine.
