Review: If you're a Scarfolk reader and you want to know if this latest book is of the same excellent quality as the last, the answer is simple: yes. The same clever satire, the same deeply unsettling setting, the same aura of despair. It's excellent. This book is less long-form than the previous tourist guide; it is instead a pastiche of the childhood activity books of yonder years. You'll likely get through it quicker than Discovering Scarfolk, but that isn't a bad thing. What's here is extra disturbing with the implicit goal of being given to children. Lots of fun. Review: Horrifying. Nightmarish. Awful. Unsettling. A+ would buy again.

You have to be of a certain age to really appreciate this. You have to have been kept awake at least once, by a particularly terrifying Public Information Film. It helps too, to have read '1984' at least once, and to understand the uniquely British ideas of 'Jobsworths' and Obfuscation. Richard Littler (his surname reminds me of something... No, it's gone. It'll come to me eventually) has a very dark and humorous world view, similar to Charlie Brooker. If you like 'Black Mirror' then there's a good chance you'll like this. It's our world... But tweaked a little, so that everything is sinister. Everything. It's a very funny book, at which you will laugh - and then think: 'Why did I laugh?' It's also terrifying: in places, it's just too close to reality. I love it, and I think you will too.

You live in the year 202X, the world of today is a GOOD PLACE. The world of the 1970s was a BAD PLACE. In those days people were STUPID, people were not POLITICALLY CORRECT, people did BAD THINGS, they SMOKED CIGARETTES, they wore FUNNY CLOTHES, they didn’t have “SMARTPHONES”, there were less than 3 billion of them - now in the world of HAPPINESS and TRUTH there are 7.5 billion.
