Original: from 1 in to 1/2 in XL: from 1 1/4 in to 1 3/4 in. I wanted bigger curls so I chose XL. With this, I can also get small curls by using the tip of the barrel. If you want slightly smaller curls, go with the original, but they're both very similar in size (only differ by 1/2 an inch). Either one you pick, it's great product.
