How convenient/easy are these to put on and take off?

It’s just a Velcro strap around your wrist. Very easy to put on and take off.

About how big is the hook, dimesnion wise?

I'm not exactly sure.. But you would be better off getting some lifting straps because holding on to the bar with these feels really uncomfortable. I stopped using them a couple of weeks after buying them because they wouldn't fill my barbells very well.
