Should I use a TDS meter to test the water quality?

A TDS meter identifies dangerous impurities only if they are electrolytes. It detects dissolved solids such as salts and minerals. Disinfection chemicals, such as chlorine and chloramine are non-electrolytes and a TDS tester cannot notice them.
