Reading Comprehension Workbook: Reading for Comprehension, Level C - 3rd Grade

This is a wonderful book to further the language arts curriculum set for my students. I love the topics covered--the liberty bell, fossils, Susan B. Anthony, etc. The students basically read one page of composition and then answer 1 page of questions (usually around 5 multiple choice) and an open-ended question to further their comprehension. The cost is low, the time to complete the assignment is short, and the benefit to my kids' education is huge. They LOVE the stories and are learning to make inferences. They are paying attention to details while reading and increasing their vocabulary. I highly recommend these workbooks!

Got this book for my 7 year old (2 grade) and the stories are very interesting and my son really likes to read it. It does help him to try to remember points in the story because he knows there are questions to follow.

I LOVE how great this series is in working on the kid's comprehension skills. Book A and B stayed very neutral and had fun topics that were not sociopolitical in nature. But be warned that book C starts into the typical stuff you have in the public schools about us ruining the earth, feminist rights, etc... VERY mildly so, but it is painting some slightly inaccurate views (like insinuating that cutting down trees is evil... doesn't mention that most tree cutters today are actually helpful to the forests and they keep them healthier with management, etc...) Now I know many who are looking at this book are not conservatives; if so you will continue to love the series. They are great for boosting kid's comprehension. But if you have any energy on this stuff, bear in mind that "the typical world view" is slowly being pushed starting in the third grade in this series. Since no one else mentioned it in the reviews, I thought I would give a heads up to fellow homeschoolers.

This is a good book; however, it does not contain the answers and you can't buy the answers either. Not even from the publishing company. The publishing company will only provide the Teacher's guide with a minimum purchase of a classroom set.I don't have time to read all the passages in order to find the answers myself. If you have the time, then get this book; otherwise don't , there are many more out there that will include the answers.

My son is struggling in 3rd grade with reading comprehension. So I thought I would try this at home and work with him. This book is nice. Everything he needs and I enjoy working with him. I feel confident that this will help him..

As a mom and a teacher of younger elementary students I found this book and its resources to be helpful. I would recommend it.

I bought three books from level C-E. They are great nonfiction reading books, short and interesting. Following each reading, there are 5-6 multiple choice questions. Too bad it doesn't provide answer keys on each reading comprehension. I called the company continentalpress and they said I have to purchase a teacher guide for the answer keys which I don't want to spend any money on it.I work full time and it's time consuming for me to read through the stories and check the answers for my daughter. As the level get higher, I am not so sure about the answers sometimes.

These books strengthen reading comprehension in addition to providing valuable informational text.
