I keep reading waterproof does not mean urine proof.** A: Hi Mary Beth~ good question. Even though I bought this to protect my new mattress & pillows from my "night sweats", it turns out that the product has also worked very well at repelling recent urinary incontinence accidents from my geriatric cat. While the amount of urine leaked may be different from cat to human, I immediately removed all of the bedding after one of my kitty's accidents and the mattress was absolutely dry. As a side note, I use Nature's Miracle Urine Stain Remover along with my regular detergent in the washing machine and it works great! (Keep in mind if your buy the mattress protector, the use of bleach and a hot clothes dryer is not recommended). The product is found here in the Pet Section and is the best thing I've ever used for removing occasional cat accidents. I don't see why it wouldn't work for human animals either! I mainly bought these because lets face it, we occasionally sweat at night, or get sick and sweat some more and I was tired of my pillows turning yellow-ish over time. I like knowing that in the event I get sick, or happen to sweat, my pillow is well protected and I can quickly throw it in the wash. I've owned the mattress cover as well for this same duration with a new mattress and it has done a fantastic job of protecting it as well.One minor drawback I feel is the micro-zipper. Now, this may be on my older version and this has changed over the years but I always worry every time I wash my cover that it will snag on the excess threads or material as I'm closing it back up. The other thing I've noticed is if the zipper is completely closed, it locks in air really well and it's takes a little bit for it to "deflate".
