It is large and lightweight. And yes pretty waterproof. Comfy to carry too. However, it is not meant to carry the load the size of the bag should allow. Bought 3 of them for a 3 week trip abroad. Wanted carry on bags for the planes...and we were only allowed 11 pounds per bag...11 pounds is nothing...so we needed lightweight bags. Well, yes we were under or at 11 pounds for all of them...and after 3 weeks, 1 of them completely tore (strap to back of bag and seam of bag) and 1 had severe tearing at the top of the backstrap...the third is probably on its way out.Bottom line...I like it...but don't plan on using it for too long. It is light and will hold a lot of stuff. I don't like the quality of the product. The product came packed in the pocket which was great but when I unpacked the backpack and turned the pocket inside out to use inside the backpack, the zipper pull was missing. I tried to go to the website and contact customer service but the website was worthless.
