A chain does come with the necklace, and you do have a choice of two styles however eventually I did purchase another chain as I wanted one a little sturdier, because I would be sad to lose this pendant, that is how much I like it. These are not shiny, but antiqued looking, so do not use a liquid silver cleaner if you like the look as in the pictures. The artisan actually put a little handwritten note with the package, which was presented so nicely, actually the best presentation I have seen so far, and it came ahead of time.
