The seat attaches and detaches fairly easily. It attaches to one of the wheel assemblies, but doesn't impinge on the travel of the wheel at all. When you sit on it, the seat slides down compressing a spring and stops when it touches the ground. When you stand up it pops back up again. The hidden spring keeps it from dragging along the ground so you have plenty of clearance when pushing the cart up and down hills and thru heavy grass. A footing on the bottom of the shaft keeps the shaft from sticking into the ground when you sit down. Note; there is some assembly required to attach it to the wheel assembly.
