It contains a Texas Instruments bq24072RGT (for the 3ds XL) which is a 1.5A Li-Ion USB 5V Battery Charge Controller rated for operation between 4.35 and 6.4 V with over-voltage protection upto 28V (do not attempt to connect the 3ds to anything more than a 5V). Your USB port must be able to provide 2A of current as this charger does not negotiate its power usage and just attempts to draw its constant current assuming the supply is sufficient to supply that level of charging. If you use a cheap USB power supply it may not be able to provide a clean 1.5A supply and could generate a lot of noise on the power signal and or drop out randomly which can cause problems. Use a quality original 2A power supply and the cable should work fine. Most newer computers can easily provide 2A charging current on ports now as well. **Q: It says it works the the DSi/XL. It does NOT and is nonreturnable. Has anyone had this problem?** A: I got some weird phone amplifier thing instead of the charger... Waiting to see if I can actually get what I ordered. Today I got an email saying they are refunding my money and I can do what I want with the piece I recieved... Now on the search for a charger that is actually what it says it is...
