desertcart.com: Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Omnibus Vol. 3: 9781401258207: Johns, Geoff, Mahnke, Doug: Books Review: The end to the greatest run in comics history - This is what it all came down to. Story: There's a lot going on here! Geoff Johns clearly showed why he created probably the best comics run in history. His long form writing, his great character work, his incredible grasp of these characters and what makes them tick, and his ability to craft some EPIC battles all are evidence of why this was such a huge franchise for DC for many years! "War of the Green Lanterns" was especially epic, as one of the oldest foes of the Coprs comes back and takes control of the emotional entities. We get to see the four human lanterns become new lanterns of various Corps, and there's some seriously awesome moments in that arc. (I don't want to spoil any, it's too good) We move onto the New 52 title, as we get to see a closer look into the soul of Sinestro and his relationship with Hal. We get to learn the secret of the Indigo Tribe, which was cool, and everything, from Sinestro and Hal saving Korugar, to learning about the Indigo Tribe, to fighting Black Hand, the introduction of Simon Baz, it all builds to the Rise of the Third Army and the Wrath of the First Lantern, and concludes with The End. Toward the end of the book, the story seems to jump ahead. I found the First Lantern all of a sudden free from his prison, with no explanation. It probably happened in another issue not written by Johns which is why it's not collected here. But, enough information is given for one to be able to follow the story through. The story, "The End" is incredibly fast paced, a LOT happens, and it actually has three endings, much like a Lord of the Rings movie, but it's solid, and probably the best ending to any comics run EVER! Johns truly offered us a true ending, which is very rare in comics, and I have to say it is thoroughly satisfying. Overall, the storytelling is world class, and as I said before, Johns may have crafted the greatest run in comics history! Art: Doug Mahnke and the various artists that join him have done such a fantastic job on this run. Mahnke is a very worthy successor to Ethan Van Sciver and Ivan Reis when it comes to his art on GL. Johns' entire GL run probably produced the greatest splash pages and double page spreads of any run I've ever seen. It's appropriate as this run is so epic in scope and scale, it would seem wrong to not have a lot of splash pages and double page spreads. They are numerous, but not overbearing, and they are probably the best in quality I've ever seen. This book, as well as the previous two, are a fantastic example of world class comics art. It doesn't get any more epic than that last image!!! The various artists in this book have truly crafted something that should be remembered for all time. Overall: What a fantastic end to the greatest run in comics history! There's a lot of moving moments in the book, like in the Larfleeze Christmas Special, and Hal and Sinestro's dialogue at the end was probably one of the best written (if brief) dialogues between a hero and villain ever! Very moving! All in all, I doubt you'll find a more thoroughly satisfying conclusion to any run by anyone else, certainly none other that is as epic as this one. You should just get this! In brightest day, in blackest night, yada yada yada, buy this book
I'll say up front that this book isn't as good as the first two. It's not bad at all (still giving it 5 stars as you can see), it's just the first book had Rebirth and the Sinestro Corps War, and the second had Secret Origin and Blackest Night, so by default, it's the least spectacular of the three. Green Lantern was one one of the few titles to survive the disaster known as "The New 52", and I'm glad DC let Johns finish the book the way he wanted. This book doesn't have the huge, jaw-dropping events of the first two, but it DOES have the debut of Simon Baz and the Larfleeze Christmas Special, so... yeah... Anyway, if you're going to read Geoff Johns' Green Lantern run, then I highly recommend doing so with the omnibus editions. Three giant sized books that capture the size and scope of this blockbuster of a series. I started reading DC comics with Johns' Teen Titans, Paul Dini's Batman, and Brad Meltzer's Justice League, but it was THIS series that made me a die hard fan and made me want to know everything there was to know about this comic book universe. Awesome series, awesome book, I say check it out!

The best out of the 3 omnibus!
So like the title says this is my favorite of the 3 omnibus. I loved the Krona story and then Sinestro being a green lantern for half of this omnibus. Lastly the 3rd army story is awesome it introduces us to a new green lantern Simon Baz. Pound to pound this omnibus is amazing. Absolutely no low points in Geoff Johns' run. Such an epic tale. I have the 3rd printing of this omnibus. The binding is good but loose on my copy. The eye good and not much gutter lost, some of the art on splash pages have some gutter lost. Definitely pick up all 3 omnibus.

Green Lantern by Geoff Johns is a must!
This omnibus was in amazing shape upon receiving. The Geoff Johns Green Lantern run is one of the greatest stories in DC history. This third and final volume is chalk full with over a thousand pages of beautiful writing and juicy art to please any comic readers desires. My children will one day read this epic saga of grand composition and pass it on for generations. I mean come on man. It's a once in a lifetime experience with comics. This series is a must!!

All great things must end...
This book was wonderful! I already own 1 and 2 in this series and just finished up this one earlier today. If you own the first 2, the quality here is the same. Though, this book made me want to just leave the dust jacket off, as the hardcover is absolutely beautiful. As for the story, it's your typical Geoff Johns GL story. He has taken GL to new heights and written maybe one of the best runs in DC, if not comic history. While book 3 isn't my personal favorite, it's still great. With book one containing the Sinestro Corps War, and book 2 featuring Blackest Night, book 3 actually had a VERY tough competition to beat. It's sad to see Johns run come to an end, but he ended it as well as he could. He neatly wraps up every storyline throughout his run in this book. If you are reading this review and you haven't bought books 1&2, quickly close this page, and go buy all 3 immediately. You'll thank me later!

If you like Green Lantern you definitely need to buy those 3 volumes, Geoff Johns did an incredible job with Green Lantern Universe. Book is heavy so you will need to read it on a table, but worth every single dollar.
