South Shore Axess Desk with Keyboard Tray, Black

Awesome. Its very hard to find an affordable computer desk that isnt just a flat table these days. Package is pretty heavy, and if you live on a 2nd floor appt like me, you may need a hand to get it up the steps. Came on time, completely undamaged. Not even a scratch. I was worried based on some other reviews I read, but I guess I was lucky. The instructions are just pictures, but if you simply read them over once before starting assembly, and seperate pieces and parts accordingly, Its actually really easy. All my parts were labeled correctly, just double check everything step by step as you go, as some of the letters and numbers do look similar. You can do it yourself, but I'd highly suggest a second set of hands to help with holding piece in place as you attach them to one another in the first few steps. Funny enough, they even state to grab a friend, and put on music before beginning assembly haha. If you have a basic sense of 3D "front and back, left and right", and a screwdriver you are set. I would NOT suggest using a drill, as the connectors are designed to be inserted, and locked into place by location, not strength necessarily. All the holes were pre-drilled and lined up perfectly, and the kit came with exactly the parts, and color specified. If you dont double check the details in the instruction pictures, its easy to flip some parts around as they are not labeled front and back, as well as sizes of specific connector materials as they are the same type and color, with different diameters. So make sure you get it right the first time, as its a pain to attempt to re-do. [I had to re-do a piece of the top shelf, and it was tough to do w/o breaking the connector.] Took me and my roomate less than an hour to assemble. My half tower fits perfectly in the base, BUT without the open shelf. I had to remove it. I have the drawer above, then tower immediately below. A full tower would NOT fit, and a mini tower, or laptop would be fine. There are spaces built into the back of the desk for wiring which is really nice, and helps with airflow and cooling. The height is also very nice, as long as you have an adjustable computer chair. Its fits both of my 21in monitors on the top shelf beautifully, with the roll out keyboard shelf being a life saver. [only 1 monitor in pic, Im repairing the other currently.] Computer speakers get a little boost if placed between the main top piece of the desk, and shelving piece. If you need something affordable and functional, go for it. It can support at least 130 lbs of weight when assembled, as I have stood on it multiple times already to get to the ceiling above, and wall behind for decorating, so no worries of flimsyness or collapsing.

I've owned this desk since 2016! It's now 2026, that's a whole ten years! Great, sturdy desk that's lasted through daily long-term use. Very minimal chipping on the wood, mostly around the edges where my arms rest. One of the best purchases I've made on amazon. survived through a move, and I do think it will last me many more years. The only issue i had with it is they sent me incorrect parts for the sliding keyboard tray. It's been janky ever since i got it but i've made it work.

Price: Paid $79.99 plus free shipping. Ordering/Shipping: Ordered on 17APR11 and had this in my home by 25APR11 (using the "FREE with Super Saver Shipping" option). No hassles and arrived in a timely manner. Packaging: Arrived in a fairly large box weighing about 85 LBS or so. I'm 24 years old and had no issues moving this around the house myself, though not without a little effort. Basic styrofoam blocks separated the box and outside world from the building materials inside. Upon removing all the pieces, it became apparent that adding some sort of barrier in between the pieces themselves would have helped immensely. While a good majority of the pieces were intact and had little to no scratches or blemishes, the big important pieces did have some superficial damage that is pretty noticeable when fairly close to the desk. However, what with shipping it across the country, and for the price I paid.... This is hardly a complaint. Just being thorough. Missing Parts/Pieces: None. Everything that was listed in the instruction manual was given. Assembly: I assembled this desk in about 2 hours by myself. Extremely easy to build, with easy to understand instructions. The only reason why it took me so long is that I tend to read and re-read directions over and over to ensure that I get things right. (Bit of a perfectionist.) Naturally having a second person to help would turn that 2 hours into less than 45 minutes. The pieces all fit together and work properly with the exception of the drawer. Instead of sitting flush with the 'cabinet' that houses it, it's sunk in a little bit. Additionally there is about a 1/4 inch gap on either side of the drawer and sits a bit lopsided to the left. Looks a bit crappy, but it's whatever. I don't even use the drawer because I placed my tower in the aformentioned 'cabinet', and my computer case will not fit unless I remove the drawer. The only other problem I have is that the top 'shelf' portion on the main area of the desk does not bolt down. I would prefer this to make moving the desk easier, as you could use them for hand holds. Overall: I'm extremely happy with this purchase. Less than 100$ and I have an extremely sturdy, nice looking desk to house my computer. This fits my needs exactly. If you are looking for a high quality desk made of good material, I would suggest looking elsewhere. This desk apparently retails at around 350$, which is far and away completely over-priced. You would do better to spend that money on another desk of quality.

I just moved to a new apartment and decided to get a new set of furniture for my bedroom. The South Shore SoHo collection seemed to be an economic but still classy bet, so that's the collection where I purchased the majority of my furniture, but I still needed a desk. In the interest of matching, I ended up finding this gem in a related collection on Amazon. I have to admit, I had a brief moment of panic after ordering when I was trying to find the desk dimensions because other sites have the same desk for sale with "Kid's" in the title. Thankfully, it's not exclusively a children's desk, though it could certainly be used as such. The desk is a little low (the space is about 24" tall and 27" wide), and I keep forgetting my desk chair doesn't fit under it all the way and accidentally banging it against the sides and keyboard shelf, but I can definitely sit at the desk comfortably and have enough space to work. The instructions were straightforward, and I was able to put it together by myself in about 2 hours without any problems. It's a sleek and attractive piece of furniture. Word of warning - the top shelf is only held in place by dowels, so be careful when moving the desk around or you might yank it out (it stays in place without issue when stationary). I originally had some books on the top shelf, and that worked fine, but if I kept them there I probably would have wanted to invest in bookends because I kept accidentally knocking them over the sides. Now, I've got all my desk trinkets up there instead. There's not much you can do with the space under the top shelf, but it does fit 5x7 photo frames and other small items nicely. The shelf under the drawer is adjustable, so I've got an 11" fabric storage cube at the bottom, which just leaves space for some thin stacked binders on top. I've had this desk for about a week and a half now, and I'm pleased. I'm a little nervous about how well the black will hold up - there are already some scuff marks and scratches on my South Shore dresser - but so far, this desk is the piece of furniture in my room I've been using the most, and I'm not seeing any issues (except some scuffs on the sides where my desk chair has rammed into it). Would definitely recommend, especially for the low price!

If you have a small space, and need a desk for very limited use, I feel like this desk is a great choice overall. I'm normally very positive in my reviews, but there are some very clear pros and cons for this desk i want to make extremely cleat for everyone. There are a ton of great reviews on this product already that both aided my decision to buy this, and also had me a little worried while I waited on the delivery. CONS 1) The SIZE but this could also be a pro, depending on the amount of space you have. for me, my space was very limited so I saw this as the best option. It has enough room for a laptop and about two books side by side. for me though, I like to spread everything out when I study so this restricts me. Again this is just my opinion on the size. 2) The SURFACE. I chose the black finish, it is textured, but also very smooth. It feels very cheap, and is also very soft, so it scratches AMAZINGLY EASY! Just in the building process I left some permanent scratches. Also, I slid my Macbook across it, and the rubber pads managed to leave a good scuff mark. To me thats kinda incredible. 3) The COMPANY. I've read numerous reviews about South Shore. Not only for this product, but for a bunch of other dressers and bedside tables as well. They seems to have a bad reputation with leaving out Items or sending broken items. I got off rather easy, but on the front of the keyboard holder, there should be a black strip covering the particle board as it is facing out. all uncovered pieces then face towards the back since we don't see them. I was missing this strip, i could tell it was once there because there was reminence of an adhesive strip which held it on. this was extremely unsightly, so in a pinch I used a black marker to color it in the best I could. I'll attach pictures to show you all. I havent contacted the company yet, but I plan on it. I will edit with how that experience goes. 4) The WEIGHT. Most all the 1 star rating are due to this fact. I'm 26, in great shape, and very strong. this was hard for even me to left by myself, just because there is no great way to grab it. so i can only imagine this would be an issue for delivery drivers who are in a hurry, and for all the men and women who deal with the package before them. it doesn't say fragile on the box so i'm sure its not handled carefully. So if anyone sits it down on a Corner too hard, it absolutely will break the particle board. a couple of my corners were banged in a little. when I saw the box i was terrified because i can tell it had been slammed down a ton. They put a good amount of padding and support in the box, but they still should put more on the corners in case. PROS 1) The ASSEMBLY. So many reviews complained that assembly was confusing and that items weren't labeled... Well all of mine were labeled, so maybe thats a new thing, or maybe somehow some unlabeled items were shipped out? because of that though it was very easy. the instructions even tell you how to best organize your stacks of parts to speed up the process. Some diagrams were a little confusing with how parts need to align, but thats nothing you cant easily figure out. I was extremely unfocused while I was putting this together, talking to roommates and watching tv, so it took me about 3 hours. But once the pieces are organized and you figure out your game plan, you can easily build this in an hour! Once everything started going together I didn't run into a single issue, and it was actually kinda fun. 2) The PRICE. Even with the Cons I spoke of, this desk is only $100, I never expected it to be perfect. it serves a great purpose for a small space. It wont last forever, but if you're looking at this desk, I have a feeling you wont need it to last forever. The day i have more room ill be upgrading to a larger desk 3) The STYLE. Even though I was missing that strip on the front, it looks great in my room. Its very modern, and very clean looking. All my roomates were impressed it was only $100 from the look of it. To sum it up, I still think this desk is a great buy, even with the cons. There are still a ton of great reviews over negative ones. So this means there is a chance there might be an issue with your item, but the chances are better you'll be happy, if what you need is a small desk.

One of the best pieces I’ve bought on Amazon and lasted really long I could have wrapped it with new material but the black was coming off after the movers chipped the desk overall it last 6 years with no wear and tear

This is, hands down, the worst experience that I have ever had ordering something through Amazon.I ordered this desk on August 1st, with free 5 to 8 day shipping. I tracked the package all week, it never even left the facility until 5 business days later. Then it spent 4 days traveling, clearly by ground, just getting through Texas. I finally received this order on August 15th, 3 days later than its delivery date, and 7 days later than everything else that I had purchased with this same order. The box came extremely damaged and retaped shut. Then when I finally open it up, there is absolutely no hardware to put it all together!! After throwing away my old desk in anticipation, I am now left with a pile of wood sitting on my floor as I wait another week for the hardware to come through the seller. The desk came from Mexico, the hardware is coming from Canada, and none of it is coming on time. Not only that, but as all I could do was sit here and dust off the wood while I wait, I now notice that the entire top of and side panels of the desk are already all scratched up and damaged. I would not recommend ordering this desk to anyone!! This has been a giant inconvenience, and I would happily send the package back if it werent 70 pounds that I would have to haul all the way back through Manhattan. I know this desk looks cute and is super cheap, so I understand why you are purchasing it, for the same reason I did. I just needed a small desk space for my studio apartment. I would have been better off with my old desk, which was literally falling apart. Spend the extra money and order something that is actually useful. Because right now I feel like I just dropped a 100 dollars down the toilet. This desk is poorly made, poorly packaged and poorly delivered. I will never order anything from South Shore, or from the seller Cymax. This desk is worthless. For a hundred dollars I could still find a better desk than this. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

This desk has been great so far. It's large enough for a small one-man workstation. The desk height is plenty high for a full grown adult, which I was unsure of reading reviews about buying it for kids. Personally I did not attach the top shelf part, because I wanted the full desk space. I used some black vinyl strips to cover the holes, and it looks great. The main reason I bought this desk is for the keyboard tray. Most desks you can get no longer have a keyboard tray, and if they do, it's so tiny you can barely fit a small wireless keyboard onto it. This desk has a nice, full sized tray, that accommodates both my keyboard, as well as my mouse and mouse pad. Unfortunately, the item did arrive with a little damage on the corner of several pieces. It was mostly in places you can't really see unless you look hard enough, so I didn't think it deserved any stars off of it for that. It was probably the warehouse or shipper that caused the damage anyways. A great desk for a great value.

Great desk! Assembly was super easy with the instructions, some of the parts fit together kind of strange, like the bottom of the shelves have this small piece that doesnt fit right so it looks kinda strange but not bad enough to knock off a star, super sturdy! I have 2 monitors that sit up on the little shelf at the top of the desk making the desk space amazingly open up! The added storage with the drawer and the shelves below it make it amazing for storing stuff away that you dont need at hand right then and there. Behind the shelves there is a half piece of wood that you nail in that doesnt cover the full back so cords can be brought through so you can plug whatever you want in that might need power in the shelf area, thats a plus. For the price, and the build quality, this is definitely a great buy. Came with all the parts and extras if you misplace one or one wasnt included!

Es un escritorio cumplidor, con buenos materiales y muy buenos acabados. Es relativamente fácil de armar aunque las instrucciones solo vienen en inglés, asi que si no hablas el idioma quizá te cueste un poco más de trabajo. El costo de envío por otro lado es ALTISIMO pero quizá no encuentres en el mercado nacional algo de mejor calidad y de mejor relación beneficio costo.

Ummm solo el precio hay similares, a menor costo no obstante ya lo adquiri lo pago.
