One of the greatest RPGs ever created
First thing you need to know is that this is primarily an RPG with first person shooting mechanics for combat. It has less of an emphasis on combat than say... Mass Effect 2, but don't think the shooting is clunky, it's not, but more on that later. This is one of the greatest RPGs ever created, and one of the best games ever created. It's absolutely amazing. If you loved the original Deus Ex, than you'll be pleased to know that this game surpasses it in every aspect imaginable. This game is the true successor to Deus Ex, and will satisfy Deus Ex fans and RPG fans alike. The story and gameplay are both top notch. You'll talk to tons of people, carry out sidequests, and make decisions that have real impacts. There's a level progression system in place, and it works wonderfully. You earn xp points and then earn nexus points to spend on various augments that can augment various attributes on your character such as stealth, hacking, strength, radar, weapons handling, armor, and more. It's unbelievable how satisfying it is to build up your character and become more powerful, and how you want to play is entirely up to you. The story is incredible and you get to make choices that reflect your own personality. You are Adam, and this is how role playing should be done. With you taking on the role of your character. All of the characters are very well developed and you establish real bonds with them. You care about them, they aren't just some faceless talking heads that spout meaningless nonsense (*cough* Rage). As I mentioned before, combat is real time first person shooting. Unlike the first Deus Ex game, shooting in this game is PERFECT. All of the weapons feel great, and the gunplay is fantastic. Shooting enemies is satisfying, and rewarding. You have the option of going into battle guns blazing if you choose, or you can play stealthy, it's entirely up to you. However unless you augment your character appropriately, you'll die very quickly as just a few bullets will kill you. The game has an excellent cover system which switches from first person to third person seamlessly. This cover mechanic is also essential to stealth and sneaking around. You can even beat the entire game without killing a single person aside from bosses (you can receive an achievement for that). I could gush more about the game, but I should point out a few nitpicks. There's only two cities to explore and you visit each twice. There's other areas to visit (these are combat areas essentially where you fight or sneak around), but in terms of fleshed out cities to explore, only two. That's not as big of a deal though because they are VERY well done and visiting them again still feels new because new events will have transpired. The graphics are serviceable. They aren't the greatest visuals on the planet, but they get the job done and the PS3 version doesn't look like it got shafted in any way and that's what matters the most. There's too much to say about this game. Bottom line, stop what you're doing and get this game. You won't regret it.

I spent hours playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution
You play as Adam Jensen, security specialist for Sarif Industries. When Sarif Industries is attacked by a group of mercenaries, killing Megan Reed and her team, you are left for dead and unwillingly saved by augmentation(advanced prosthetics). When you are fully recovered, you start to investigate why Sarif Industries was attacked and eventually unravel a much deeper plot. The game is a first-person shooter, but there are several ways you can play the game since it combines stealth and role-playing elements. You can go in with guns blazing, killing everyone and everything in your sight. You can be a ghost, traveling from air vents and unguarded paths. Or you can do a little of both. Since the game relies on the ethical choices you encounter throughout the game, you can ultimately influence characters and events for better or for worse. Because of augmentation, you can upgrade your eyes, armour, etc. to better fit the type of gamer/person you are. Pacifist? War-monger? However, the game leans more on its stealth elements. The A.I. does a decent job at detecting and not detecting your presence. But their reactions are not real-life reactions. For example, if one detected and searched for you but couldn't find you, they go about their business as if you were yesterday's news. The graphics are sleek and clean. They're not mind-blowing. But who care? The gameplay is outstanding. And the game offers replay value. Since I got the Augmented Edition, it comes with a few extras. You are given a hardcover art book which contains images of environments, characters, weapons and props and a DVD featuring a making-of, game soundtrack, E3 trailer and animated storyboard, and a motion graphic novel. The DVD is actually not a DVD but a Blu-ray disc. -

This game is art.
The influences for Deus Ex are pretty clear, and fall short in many ways, but if you are into good design you will be down for some Human Revolution. There are some pretty big ideas and concepts that are gently teased at because of producer and time constraints, as I imagine. But for what it delivers it delivers with nuances and greatness. The world building is pretty top notch (all constraints considered), the soundtrack is phenomenal, the character design is on point (although misses the mark once or twice), and the narrative is obscurely compelling. There is the odd hiccup about boss battles in the veteran Deus Ex community, but personally I found them a fun break from business as usual. The Metal Gear influences in this department are real. This game is art. The Art Director (Johnathan Jaques Belletete) on this game, as a gestalt, won himself recognition and the title, a tidy amount of awards for his outstanding work and contribution to the field in an artistic sense. There are few games I would recommend for their artistry but this is definitely one of them, so if your into that, you won't be disappointed. My only gripe is the difficulty is low. You won't find yourself with much trouble rolling through Hard (Deus Ex) mode, Togusa style, with no augments, no alerts, no kills, and a revolver for bosses. It's a bit if a cake sneak.
