How well does this polish work without a base coat applied?

I’ve never tried without a base coat. The clear base coat is good cause it prevents the red color from staining the natural nail.

The color shown in this picture is not correct. “I’m not really a waitress” is a deep red. OPI nail polish is the best for my weak nails, I find its long lasting and protects them well.
