desertcart.com: How to Train Your Mind: Exploring the Productivity Benefits of Meditation (Audible Audio Edition): Chris Bailey, Chris Bailey, Audible Originals: Books Review: Really, REALLY good - I was very impressed with the material and the narration. No fluff. The author explains why it's beneficial in plain English. Like most, I have tried meditation off and on over the years, but thought I wasn't doing it correctly. With this book, you discover everyone's mind wanders-often. There is no wrong way of meditation. Like the slogan says, "Just do it". Even 2 to 5 to 10 minutes daily is a good start. The author says 2 minutes a day is better than one hour on a weekend. I'm starting immediately. Review: Not impressed.. - This book did not live up to expectations.

Excellent! No fluff, just crisp, to the point, beautifully read, useful information
I don't finish 90% of the audio books I listen to. More often than not, they're this single idea or a small set of ideas that could easily be fully exhausted in just a few pages that have been "inflated" into a book with endless of repetitive stories, and many chapters before you even start getting to the "good stuff". This audio-book (or "retreat, the way the author calls it) is different. He is very mindful (no pun intended) about conveying useful information and leaving the fluff out. I've been doing meditation on and off for years (unfortunately more 'off' than on'...), but I've never thought about doing meditation for the sake of being more productive throughout my work day (as opposed to just improving my health, mental health, relationships, etc.). This audio book takes an entirely different approach to productivity and I absolutely love it. The author is also the narrator and he's very pleasant to listen to.

Makes an exceptionally compelling case!
This impressed me. I've explored a lot of meditation resources (Headspace, Simple Habit, Calm, 10% Happier, Jon Kabat-zinn and UCLA's mindfulness course). I've never heard any of them make as persuasive a case (for me) as Chris did for WHY to meditate. He shows that a minute invested in mindfulness meditation yields 9 minutes back. He makes that point with convincing data and studies. He also provides many great tips and bits of perspective. My favorite was about becoming fascinated by your breathing. And that meditation is valuable BECAUSE it's boring and hard. I even chuckled out loud at some of the jokes. Most importantly, my meditation motivation has never been higher. Two big thumbs up!

The "Rational" Reason to Meditate
I am a Physical Therapist and have a large population of patients experiencing Chronic Pain. Meditation is one of the tools I suggest to my patients all the time. BUT... Everyone resists the suggestion because of it's "history". This audio gives a great beginners look into why and how to meditate that makes it easy to start. Takes all the stress out of meditation by following his guidance. I have learned more from this book than from the "professional" training I have received on meditation. Loved it and it also helped me become better at my meditation practice. Give it a chance. I'll be recommending this to all my patients.
