Overkill, you don't need that much power.

Can this pump irrigate 3.4'' pipe at 300' at 25' rise?

Not recommended.The GT15 pump has a 1-1/2" discharge. Designed for large volume flow.Reducing to 3/4" creates WAY TOO much back pressure for this pump. (Back pressure creates HIGH Total Dynamic Head - TDH)In your scenario, Let's say your irrigation system requires a flow rate of 15 GPM @ 35 psi @ 300 ft away from pump Running 15 GPM thru 3/4" pipe for 300 ft = ~130 ft TDH (Pressure Loss = 56 psi)Plus the 25 ft rise (Pressure loss = 11 psi)And let say you want 35 psi (Higher PSI = Higher TDH) = ~80 ft TDH (Pressure Loss 35 psi)That said, you would need a pump that can operate upwards of 235 TDH (Pressure loss to overcome = 102 psi)The GT15 has a MAX TDH of ~120 ft TDH (or ~ 52 psi) Don't use this pump for your system...it will not work.

is it possible to over-work this pump by not having enough sprinklers in a zone?

No the problem on pumps is typically when you over flow them (too many sprinklers) and the motor draws more amps. Also cycling the motor on/off is not good for the motor life.

I’m replacing a sta-rite ds3hf-01 1.5hp, would this be the correct replacement pump?
