This hammer will work. Depends on the personal preference **Q: Can this be used to crack open rocks?** A: It is designed for brick but I'd think it would work since I have done it, but granite (igneous rock) might wear it down faster. It works with layered rock pretty well and can cleave the layer then you swing the handle sideways to open the crack more.
