I think you can find a screen saver for your laptop if you want a fire to look at. If you want actual heat, then go with a bigger unit that looks like furniture

It was really noisy for about the first twenty minutes that we turned it on but it became much quieter after a short period of use and you can hardly hear it now.

Yes, all of the heater is cool to the touch if it is running as it is now. I touched it everywhere and felt no heat.
