Moroccanoil Color Depositing Mask, 6.7 Fl. Oz

I really like this color depositing mask! It’s an easy way to refresh my hair color at home without having to completely dye it again. It leaves my hair feeling incredibly soft and conditioned instead of dry, and the color gives it a nice refreshed look and shine. It’s simple to use and feels more like a deep-conditioning treatment than a typical color product. I also love the Moroccanoil scent. Definitely something I would use again between color appointments!

Let me tell you how this wonderful mask saved my hair and saved me some major embarrassment on a Vegas trip. Note: even good stylists can make mistakes or forget to warn you about potential interactions between treatments. I am naturally a medium/dark brunette but had been getting balayage highlights for years so my hair was almond blonde. I decided to go back to brunette with caramel highlights. My stylist darkened my hair to a medium brunette which was a little lighter than I wanted but it looked fine. The next day I came back for the highlights and keratin treatment and when I left the salon I noticed my hair was even lighter and had a red hue and the highlights looked orange. I knew after the keratin I couldn’t wash for 3 days and couldn’t color for 2 weeks so I thought I would just wait and see what it looked like after I washed my hair, which happened to be the day my husband and I left for a Vegas weekend. After much research I realized that keratin treatments can lift your hair color and mine tends to pull red/orange, oops, I wish my stylist had thought of this and she left a couple days after my treatment for vacation. I ordered this product and a green conditioner to try and temporarily remedy the situation, and after washing on Friday morning my hair had not improved so I tried the green conditioner first to remove the red hue. To my horror, it tinted my hair green. It’s not supposed to do that. I then washed my hair twice with a clarifying sulfate shampoo (not good for keratin but I was desperate) and it didn’t really help. With just a few hours before our flight, I decided to try this product in Coco because I knew it had pigments of yellow, green, and red which would hopefully cover and balance out the green. I sectioned my damp hair and left on for 15 minutes and rinsed. Immediately better but my roots still looked a little orange so I did a shadow root technique, left on for another 15 minute, and rinsed. Omg. My hair looks so much better, smelled nice, and was soft and shiny. My husband, who had seen the green hair and was very skeptical when I told him I could fix it, was shocked when he got home. He loved the color and so did I. It was a tad darker than I expected but still looked very nice and it has been lightening up very slightly with each wash and still looks great. I even had a stranger come up to me in Vegas and compliment my hair color and say she is going back to brunette from blonde and is trying to achieve my exact color. I told her my secret. Anyway, to summarize: this product smells nice, is quick and easy to use, fades nicely, made my hair soft, and gave me a beautiful chocolate brown that my hairdresser couldn’t. Amazing product, to be honest! It did exactly what I wanted it to do - tone down some highlights I was trying to grow out. I was hesitant at first because DIY hair dyes can have terrifyingly unexpected results if done wrong (and I knew from experience that all the "cocoa" box dyes from my youth always came out really heavily red toned on my hair, not at all the dark brown of the pictures). Permanent dyes also come with risks of staining your skin, towels, surfaces, everything, which adds an extra layer of pressure. But this - this was easy! I did wear gloves to apply but I'm not sure I needed to. The Internet tells me this should last 3 to 10 washes so I'll probably go without gloves next time when I have to reapply. I only left it on for 3-4 minutes, because all I really wanted to do was blend in the blond, not dye my whole head, and it did exactly that. Finally I'll stop wanting to hack all my blond ends out! And I don't care if I have to do this once a week to keep it covered, it was quick, easy, messless, and looks exactly like I wanted. I didn't even use conditioner before or after the mask and my hair is as shiny, lustrous, and voluminous as I could ever wish for. So glad I found this product and had the courage to try it out! It will be exactly what I need to get me through the transition back to my natural brown color. 5/5 stars! Update: it's been 6 days and 3 washes since I applied the mask, and the blond is starting to peek through. It looks like this will need refreshing about every 4 washes to keep the bright tones from standing out too much. Hope this helps!

First image is the before, and 2nd one is after. Not very effective with color depositing. I applied the product on towel dried hair, and left on for about 15 minutes and rinsed with cool water. I blow dried on medium heat. My hair felt incredibly moisturized, soft and detangled. I love the smell! The color change was very subtle and not really noticable in the pictures. It toned down some of the gold colors a bit, and wish it had toned it more. I will probably purchase purple toning drops and make my own formula. Took a star off for the value. My Hair type is long hair, thinned with under-shave, and I used 90% of the bottle. Pricey for $30 single use.

I recently dyed my hair from blonde to medium brown after dealing with iron deficiency/ weight loss related hair loss and breakage. I could no longer continue to weaken my already fragile hair with bleach. Because my hair was so damaged it was extremely pourous and I’d lose a lot of my color within 2 weeks of getting it done. Now that my hair has improved quite a bit , color is lasting much better but I find that by week 3-4 I miss that “deep , just left the salon color”. I tried this on a whim and holy moly I am so impressed. Hair prep before application is important if you want even color that lasts. What you wash your hair with will dictate the results. My holy grail detox shampoo that is color safe is Loreal metal detox. You want your hair to be a clean slate before applying this- no product buildup or hard water minerals. I’m convinced this worked so well because I washed with that shampoo before application. I rinsed with cold water and squeezed out the excess water from my hair. I was impressed with how little of this I really needed. I have shorter hair and was able to get a nice even application with a quarter size of product. I thought I would need more but it spreads like butter in the hair. I then used a wide tooth comb and combed my hair making sure it was evenly distributed. I put a shower cap on my head to keep my head warm and left the product on for 10 mins which was perfect. I rinsed with cold water to seal the cuticle and was shocked that the water was clear when I rinsed- I expected the water to be the color of the pigment but my hair drank it up. I was so impressed with how soft my hair was after this mask. It was the perfect light weight hydration without making my hair look heavy. The end result of the color was nearly identical to what it was when I got it done. I didn’t mention to my husband that I did this and he noticed right away and said it looked great. I don’t wash my hair everyday but I do wet it with cold water and condition and the color has lasted several days already. The tube is a good size so it will last me several months using it once a week in between my hair appointments. I will continue to repurchase this. This is a rare product that truly blows me away with the results. It made my hair look so shiny and smooth as well. $30 is pricey but with how it performed for my hair I will absolutely keep repurchasing this!

I've tried a few different color depositing masks, and this is my least favorite. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures of the before and after. My natural hair is a medium brown with a touch of red/brassiness from the sun. I was hoping this mask would get rid of the brassiness and maybe even make it shade or two darker. This mask did make my hair darker brown, but it also made it more red, which I am not happy about. Everyone's hair is different, this is just my experience. Despite the higher price of this mask, the effect of the darker brown only lasted a couple washes. The red, however, seems to have remained. I'm hoping that washes out too. It's not terrible, I just won't buy this again. I'm looking for a cool brown.

This is a fantastic temporary dye. It hydrates your hair while giving you a new fun color. Little fragrance, easy to use. If you are blonde this product makes a huge impact on your complexion. I am naturally blonde and it darkened my hair enough that I looked washed out. I also don’t wear a ton of makeup. I have sensitive skin and this product doesn’t give me a reaction. Lasts 2 weeks + with full color. Fades for another 2 weeks.

Update: After about an hour, I decided it couldn't wait and showered again, washing it 4x, conditioning it 2x (clearly it's very dehydrated) and then did a leave-in conditioner before blowdrying. Definitely still purple. By a lot. But better. Lesson learned. Glad it worked for so many people. I was not one of them. Original review: Hahahaha nooooooope, so bad. It is SO BAD. My hair is streaked with chunks of PURPLE. I combed it through, so it must just be sections that were more lifted or dehydrated. My hair is very long. I can't stop laughing. I was expecting a subdued ash brown to return closer to my normal dark ash brown for the Fall. I also did not care for the smell. I used to use Aveda Clove back in the day and loved it. This is not that. Now to fix this.... YIKES.

Gives colour to already coloured hairs. Will fade away after 3-4 washes

It didn't quite work for me, I have many gray hairs so I wanted my brown hairs to get slightly darker, but it didn't make any difference.

Wow just wow! During lockdown with all hairdressers shut I was at a loss with my blonde hair with root and greys :( I took to this product as I had seen a review on it and thought I would get it a go and as pink is my favourite colour I thought why not. I used this product and mixed with my own hair mask, left it on for 20mins and rinsed out. I was amazed with the results! So what started with fun with my hair due to boredom turned out amazing. I have had so many lovely comments off work colleagues, family, friends etc that I feel this is now my new hair look, the pink will stay for now :) The colour fades a little after each wash. I tend to top up every 2 weeks and it brings it back to what it was before. 1 tube lasts me atleast 3 uses and I have long hair. Leaves my hair feeling soft, shiny and healthy. I cannot recommend thus product enough!! I will definitely purchase again and for £28 its a bargain! Cheaper then a trip to the hairdressers!!!
