CLEP® Introductory Sociology Book + Online (CLEP Test Preparation)

Excellent study material, compatible with the Clep course design.

Passed with a 62! Surely didn't cover everything on the exam, but definitely more than enough to pass given a couple days of cramming. I studied for about a week, give or take 2-3 hours each day. I really can't compare to any other study resources since this is the only one I used. Good luck to future exam takers out there!

I scored a 67/80 on my CLEP sociology exam, solely using this book and the online practice tests it has. HOWEVER, NONE of the practice test questions appeared on my actual CLEP test. The book and practice test will teach you just enough information to be familiar with the lingo, methodology, and history. In all honesty, I thought I failed but retained just enough information to make educated guesses. I gave myself a month and a half of lax studying and passed. If I can do it, so can you. I bought this book two weeks before my planned test date. I studied the book and took the three online tests and practice tests in the book and ended up scoring a 70 out of 80 on the exam. The book works.

The book needs a good rewrite. Although there is good information in the book,it is disturbing that a book focused on sociology could contain sexist pronouns and nouns to the extent this book uses them. For example, the almost exclusive use of the masculine pronoun or the use of nouns such as "mankind" demonstrate a book that doesn't, at the very least, follow APA standards. The section on families is also outdated. For example, page 58 states, "The nuclear family consists of people of the opposite sex who are in a socially approved sexual union and living with their children." Come on! Yes..there is useful information, but I felt like I was reading source material from the 1950s.

This book gives you the info you need to know to pass the exam without a bunch of complicated jargon or extra fluff. I thought the practice questions closely resembled the actual test.

Helped me pass with a week of studying!!!! Do not be surprised if you do badly on the practice exams. I did not do well on the REA practice exams but scored in the high 50's on the actual CLEP exam. I did supplement some with Instacert flash cards; however, this book was great for providing vocabulary that I needed to know for the CLEP . Highly recommend!

I studied the weekend before my scheduled CLEP exam. I had this book, the REA Sociology Exam Notes pamphlet & the Official CLEP Study Guide 2014. The online tests are the same as those in the book. By studying/preformimg the tests and reviewing the test questions and reviewing the detailed solutions to the test questions, I was able to pass the exam with five points to spare. So worth the money. The information in the book isn't all that helpful, but understanding the layout of the questions was most important for me.
