It is made of polypropylene so we are left to guess what would happen in various threat scenarios. I keep mine by the front door to deflect and obstruct an advancing home invader. My little Cold Steel shovel sits beside it and is razor sharp so it can do the job of a large sword or a short axe, but only if there is 'room' to swing it. Your machete idea has the same problem. A very ineffectual weapon in a close quarters, face to face, struggle. I recently saw a video on YT where 'experts' combat tested each kind of weapon (sword, spear, axe and so on) against the others. None of the weapons provided any effective defense against a spear. Cold steel and others sell a wide variety of spears which are worth a look. Just my opinion. **Q: Will this allow me to parry casuals?** A: Yes, just make sure to remove the kick ash of war first and add the party ash of war. **Q: Do they make a bigger version?** A: No, the "Targe" is the largest size. If one decided to "improve" the shield, additional "materials" might be added to modify the shield to withstand higher 'threat levels' or increase it's size. I suppose that 'ballistic plate' or Kevlar matting could even be attached somehow.
