Brutal Taste, Beautiful Gains – Worth Every Grimace
TL;DR: Tastes like burnt coffee beans and regret, but if you want real muscle retention and recovery, this stuff works. I mix it post-workout with creatine and 16 oz of water. It’s pure, effective, and worth the grimace. Suck it up, buttercup. Let’s get one thing straight: this stuff tastes like burnt coffee beans had a bitter divorce with a charred tire—and somehow they both lost custody. If you’re expecting a tropical fruit flavor, walk away. But if you’re chasing real results and not some sugar-coated placebo, Nutricost’s L-Leucine delivers. I drink this post-workout, mixing one scoop with creatine and about 16 oz of water. Taste-wise? It’s rough. But it mixes well, no clumps, and hits your system like a freight train full of gains. Suck it up, buttercup—the results are worth the momentary mouth punishment. Now let’s talk results: faster recovery, better muscle retention (especially cutting), and noticeable post-lift performance improvements. Leucine is the MVP of BCAAs for muscle protein synthesis, and this pure, no-BS version nails it. Bonus: no fillers, no weird additives, just pure leucine doing exactly what you want it to do—helping you hang onto hard-earned muscle like it owes you money. Taste is a 2/10. Results? 10/10. You don’t buy this for a spa day—you buy it because it works.

Tastes like burnt dog doo, works great!
Smells like terrible cheese and a toot, and has a strong after taste of bitter burnt coffee grounds, but mixed with Sunny D it’s really not bad. Seems to work well for being the most important of the BCAA stack. I’ll order again for sure.

Bitter taste but sweet results.
Age 90. Except for keeping the house clean and repaired I don't do much exercise. I was told by my doc, two years ago, that I should worry about my legs getting weak. I forgot her comments until my balance started going down hill. A few months ago I started research and found out that everybody's legs get week in the later years of life. My research pointed me to L-Leucine as a help. Three months ago I started mixing 5gms L-Leucine to my Green tea first thing in the morning. After a few weeks my walking is much more steady (no cane for me). Glad I started L-Leucine.

Quality of the Product
Read previous reviews about the product. The 2 points that stuck out are the size of the container for the amount of product it contains. And also the smell and taste. I do concur the container could stand to be smaller. That being said, you do get a fair amount of product for the price. As for the smell and taste, I personally had no issue with either.

A great product for leg strength.
This really works! Put into my morning coffee, my legs got stronger. Dissolves quickly, no taste at all. A great value for the price. Enough for an entire month. No side effects at all.

This is an essential nutrient to build muscle when you're older
I am not advertising this. The education is if you want to wake up your muscles in the 40s 50s and 60s and 70s of your life you need leucine. This stuff does not mix well in water if you're a smoothie person you're good to go. It is excellent product it works very well take it an hour before you're planning on working out it will be in your system and your muscles will wake up. Almost 70 years old and this stuff works good for me.

Trying Leucine for muscle building
First thing I think is important to know is that this stuff tastes BAD! I am talking very bad, and I can tolerate most Bads, but this is the worst I’ve come upon so far. I will definitely be switching to capsules next time. As to the product itself, I trust Nutricost so believe it will do what it is supposed to do. The powder is finer than any other of their powders I have gotten. It is very much like a fine baby’s talcum powder. It’s easy to measure with the enclosed scoop, and mixes as well as any other powder I have. I put this, and a few others into a small amount of lemonade, stir briskly till mixed, then gulp it down followed by a glass of Whey protein. Yucky, but doable. If your doctor has recommended Leucine, or you’ve decided to try it yourself, here you go. Points off of five only for the taste. I do believe in Nutricost products.

Buy Only If You’re Serious about Nutrition and Don’t expect Supplements to taste like Treats
I prefer to make my own stack - I don’t care for pre-mixed powders (with sugars, artificial sweeteners or stimulants like caffeine etc.) and I want to purchase items made (or at least packed) in the USA or a place with similar safety standards. This is the rare stuff that fits my needs. For those who have yet to take unflavored pure supplement powders - you are stepping into the realm of the unknown. So here’s the deal: “Unflavored” doesn’t mean tasteless, it means there’s no extra flavoring added. This stuff smells and perhaps tastes a little bit like stinky cheese without the sweetness, it tastes somewhat bitter as well - “Dissolves” easily doesn’t mean it will mix with water like Kool-aid, you could stir with a spoon into a cup of water and immediately chug (it will float up if left too long), but it will be absolutely fine in your shaker bottle with a few shakes. If you’re serious about your supplement regimen, results focused, and monitoring your intake (both macro and micro-nutrients) Or just drink your coffee black, no sweetener: you can handle it. Also, if you haven’t done so and it fits into your plan, I recommend first trying other unflavored/pure powders from this brand, like the Creatine Monohydrate, to get your toes wet before this stuff. If you’re looking for a tasty, sweet treat to put in your shaker because that’s what your mind is set on, you will need to mix it in with something else that gives you that sensation - but this might not be the product you’re looking for in the first place. For those who remain: mix it in with pure whey protein for your after workout shake - it will help with recovery.
