I have some particular health issues that contribute to chronic constipation. For many years I relied on Aloe-Lite, an herbal supplement, to keep me regular. During some sessions with a nutritionist, I learned I needed to add (yes...)even more fiber to my already healthy diet. After some research, I decided to try the Yerba Prima Organic Psyllium Whole Husk product. I started with a teaspoon/day, then worked my way up to a heaping Tablespoon/day. All I can say is, "WOW", this stuff really works. It is important to avoid taking this product within a certain time period if you are taking medications/supplements as it can block absorption of these items. I have found that, for me, it works best if I take it several hours after dinner and my evening supplements...usually right before bedtime. Be sure to drink an adequate amount of water to avoid choking (the psyllium expands when wet and can cause a choking hazard if taken with too little water!). I mix mine in about 10 oz of filtered reverse osmosis water and drink quickly, as it tends to get thicker as it sits in the glass. Truthfully, I don't love the texture of this supplement, but it is a small price to pay for avoiding constipation. As an added benefit, my cholesterol dropped 100 points since I have added the psyllium into my daily regimen 3 months ago(I do not take any other medications for cholesterol!).
