I came upon these speakers by accident. I could say that destiny brought me to them but i won't go there. Simply a happy accident. In Feb. I logged into Amazon looking for some powered speakers to use with my TV. I had both Klipsch Pro Media and Bose Companion II in the past and expected I'd end up with one or the other. However, I wanted to check out what else was available in that price range as I hadn't checked out powered speakers in a while. I'm not an audiophile but I think I have a pretty good ear and wanted the best I could get in my price range. I've found that good speakers can make a pretty big difference when you are on a tight budget. As I was browsing I saw that Amazon was promoting a speaker by an outfit called Edifier, a name that I had not heard before. So I looked them over and they compared well with the others I was considering. One thing I really like about Amazon is the questions/answers and customer reviews provided in the product info. I always read at least some of both just to get an idea of what others are saying. I've found this info to be helpful when I'm not familiar with a product or the company selling it. The reviews for this product, the R1280T, over the top positive and other than folks that received a defective product, what issues people had seemed minor or subjective. The people not throwing down 4 ad 5 star reviews were still upbeat about the general quality of these speakers. I read all of the reviews and rechecked the specs. Then I went and found reviews of these speakers on the web and again everything was very positive. I hadn't seen this sort of overwhelmingly positive reaction to a product ... I guess ever. I made the decision to throw the dice, take a chance, and buy them. And they were every bit as good as everyone as said. They worked great with my TV and sounded better to me than the other speakers I'd owned before. To say that I was pleased is the understatement of the year. This finally brings me to the Edifier R2000DB. I had been considering putting together a modest system to listen to music on. I was just using a DVD running through my TV but wanted better sound quality. When I got the R1280Ts' I got the idea to upgrade the speaker system and forego the receiver/speaker system I'd been considering. I went to the Edifier web site and checked out their bookshelf speakers. The 1280's were the bottom of this particular line. I knew that I was on the right track. I compared specs and features along with price and finally settled on the R2000DB. I liked the next model up but was not able to make it work with my budget. So I ordered the R2000DB and received them last Friday. Everything was well packed for shipment and ready to go right out of the box. The R2000DB came in cherry or piano black. I chose the black and these are d**n fine looking speakers. The front is slightly angeled back and combined with the glossy black finish gives them a sort of elegant look. The powered speaker connects with the passive one with a 10' heavy gauge cord with a pin connector. There are controls on the back for volume, treble and bass. And connections for optical. 3.5mm to rca and rca to rca. All cords are supplied and while a person might want to upgrade these, it isn't necessary and IMO the fact that everything needed to make these speakers work right out of the box is included is a nice perk. Set up takes me maybe 5 min. and am ready to listen. The included remote control is small but simple to use. Off/on, mute, volume up and down, inputs for optical, lines 1 & 2 and Bluetooth and classic and dynamic mode. I hooked the speakers to the optical out on my TV and fired up the DVD player. I had received a copy of the Hoodu Gurus Blow Your Cool cd at the same time as the speakers so it went on first. With the controls on the back set to mimimum I raised the volume as far as I thought prudent. These play loud. No distortion percieved at any level and the bass boomed as if with a small subwoofer. The bass probably won't satisfy the hard core bass fan it's more than enough for most people. I live in a small 2 bdrm apt, maybe 900-1000 sq ft. and my listening area is approx. 13' x 10'. These speakers fill this room at any volume and sound fine back in my bedroom even at a normal listening level. The amps in the speakers deliver 60 watts per channel and have enough built in to allow me to not need a separate amp/receiver. I played several cds' and dvd audio discs mainly roots rock, acoustic, bluegrass and blues. Since my exposure to classical music comes mostly from old Warner Bros. cartoons I didn't have much to test classical except a DVD audio of the Moody Blues, Days of Future Past. Which sounded just fine, thank you. Lastly I checked out the bluetooth. Speakers connected and paired easily with my phone and though the sound wasn't as good as with the connected device, it was good enough, kinda like the difference between a stand alone radio and a cd played through a stereo system. I'm thinking that I can improve the sound a little by tweaking the audio on the source, but if a person can afford it the next model up has a codec that provides cd quality sound w/bluetooth. This is a tradeoff I was aware of and opted for. Overall I'm thrilled with quality of these speakers and would recommend them or any Edifier bookshelf speaker to anyone looking for a high quality, versitile speaker system at what amounts to a bargain price for what you get. Happy accident or destiny, I'm more than satisfied with this purchase.

So i got these for my office cause I was looking to upgrade my system that was in here. I had an old Pioneer Prologic receiver with a big cool learning remote control, hooked to 2 old JBL book shelf shelf speakers that have titanium tweeters and 4.5 inch woofers. I bought that set up with a yamaha subwoofer and a sony centerchannel and sony surrounds for a home theater I had when I was 16 years old I put the peices in law away at my local electronic stores. Do you remember Circuit City. I was 16 and now Im fourty and the equipment has held up, its all heavy stuff you could kill someone with that receiver haha. Anyway I was looking at getting new speakers and upgrading my receiver so i could get a better eq and some DSP along with blue tooth functionality. I happened upon these speakers cause I was looking for a small powered sub and Amazon recommended powered speakers to me to look at. I was thinking why do i want powered speakers when I plan on getting a nice receiver then I looked at the reviews and I like the idea of having more shelf space in here as real estate comes at a premium in here, I was very impressed with reviews, the convenience of an all in one package, and the look of the speakers. I had a hard time choosing between these and the upgrade but I was looking at another $100 and the speakers were heavier and larger than these so I said what the HEY. Couldnt wait to get these but thanks to Prime they came quick an on time. The Fed Ex guy said these look expensive and theyve got some weight to em so i told him why I got em and he took off. I opened the box and was immediately impressed with the feel of the speakers there was nothing about them that appeared to be cheap. I like how the grills dont have pins in them that might break if you take them off to clean them. The pins are in the speaker and the grills have the female end that slide on easily and firmly (no rattling there). They came with everything you need which is awesome rca cables, optical cables, the speaker wires that connect them to each other of course and the remote which some people complain about being flimsy. I personally dont mind the remote its small and it doesnt take up alot of room. Maybe the remote could have been made of aluminum or wood or something fancier but to be honest I really dont mess with it that much. I control the volume from my phone or computer. I put Velcro on the back of it and have it mounted to the upper side of my desk so its completely out of the way. i like how you got tone control knobs and volume knob instead of relying soley on the remote which you might loose or break. The remote has Power, mute, bluetooth, volume up and down, optical, line 1,line2 and 2 dsp options being Classic and Dynamic. Anyway Im using Power Amp on my Droid cause it has a great EQ and tone controls. My phone and computer paired with no problems at all so I was good to go. I started going through my music library from Jazz to rap to classical to rock and i was very impressed with how it handled the range from highs to lows. I was just now listening to the Poilce - wrapped around your finger and wow what an amazing sound these put out from the bass to the details of the drum kit to voices there is nothing missing. I was a little concerned that the reviews were gonna end up being people exaggerating or they were in awe cause the had junk prior to these but I cant imagine speakers this size in this price range being any better. I almost want to buy a second pair for my 50i nch plasma TV room but I usually use that for the PS4 and I use headphones or a mic'd head set plus i still have the Pioneer and the JBLs to use. I have a home theater with a projector and some higher end speakers and I am tempted to say that these sound better honestly which sounds crazy i know. If I had a complaint it would be that there could be a little better midrange but thats being picky. Ive had these like 4 days now and I can hear that they are breaking in cause Im hearing more details in the same songs coming through. I just dont see how anyone could be disappointed with these unless they were expecting $4,000 sound from a $250 system. Ive got more room on my office shelves and Ive got amazing sound thats easily accessible from my desk. Can you tell I'm happy?

I wasn't exactly surprised on how amazing and worth every penny these speakers are. They are Edifiers! :)

I wanted to replace a small bluetooth speaker for my dining room with bigger and better sound. A lot of research online led me to these Edifier speakers. If it wasn't for some bluetooth connectivity issues I experienced, these would definitely deserve a five star rating. When you open the package, you could see that Edifier really went all out at it. Each speaker has a plastic cover to protect the shiny silk dome tweeter and wrapping all around each speaker to protect the glossy finish. Even my JBL LSRs did not receive such luxurious treatment. In the package, you get nice looking speaker grills, an 5 pin (proprietary?) cable to connect the left speaker to the amplified right speaker, L/R RCA to 3.5mm cable for connecting the speakers to your computer's sound card, a TOSLINK cable for optical connections if your device supports it, a small remote and the usual warranty and support manuals. They also throw in a microfiber towel for cleaning your speakers. The remote as everyone said is a bit "meh". Grey icons on black buttons makes no sense at all. However, it's only 10 buttons. With enough practice, you could press the right button without looking at it. I'm also very impressed at how many inputs these speakers support at this price point. You get 2 line inputs, 1 optical, and 1 bluetooth, and it's easy to switch between them via the included remote or by pressing the volume button at the back of the speaker. Sound wise, I've had the luxury of comparing JBL LSR305 entry studio monitors and these Edifier R2000DB speakers, which cost roughly $100 less. I think that even when comparing them side by side, it's a very hard choice between which is better as they have different sound characteristics which may be better or worse depending on your application. You also have to realize that the R2000DB has a built in DSP versus just a speaker for the JBL LSR305s, which lends to the different sound characteristics. In my tests, I have found the Edifier R2000DB's sound to very clean (towards clinical) with well defined highs and lows and more than acceptable mids. I think the DSP does a great job at cleaning up the audio. Imaging on these speakers are great. If you close your eyes, you can almost find the exact location of the instrument (or the girl). Preferably the latter with both hands. It sounds considerably different to the LSR305s which has a much warmer sound signature and thicker mids. There are two DSP modes: classical and dynamic. The classical mode sound better to me and is what I set them to every time I listen to a song. I just wished there was a better indication of the active modes on the speakers themselves. The sound signature is V shaped with very boomy but not muddy bass even at a bass setting of 0. Yes, the bass is fantastic. I wouldn't say its accurate by any means but it's more fun than the JBLs for sure since JBL's are nearly completely flat. That being said, I couldn't dial the bass any higher than 0 as it created a very unnatural imbalance in the songs. For instance, even at a setting of 0, the bass on certain songs feels exaggerated and out of place. Dialing the bass setting back to -2 solves that problem and gives the sound more balance. When AB testing the Edifier R2000DB against the JBL LSR305s, it often sounds like there is a physical separation between the tweeter and the woofer such that the lows, mids and highs do not blend together smoothly. The mids feel a bit light as if a portion is cut out. The JBL LSR305s on the other hand blends everything together so smoothly that it's hard to identify where sounds are coming from. Whereas from the Edifier, you can tell.. "oh the tweeter is doing that". Whenever I switch to the JBLs, it feels almost as if the portion of mids has been cut back into the song, and that a void has been filled. At the end of the day, they are two different speakers that are tuned differently for very different purposes/audiences. The Edifier's are definitely not studio monitors and definitely do not have a flat sound. In general, the sound signature is very pleasing and if not directly comparing against JBL LSR305s, it hard not to love the R2000DBs' clean bassy output. When AB testing them on my computer, I did find three things that are definite advantages for the Edifier speakers over the JBL speakers: hiss/white noise, buzz/ground loop noise, and speaker placement. If you look up "JBL LSR305 hiss" on the internet, you will find that the amplifiers in the JBL speakers produce a noticeable hiss even when volume is set to low. Depending on how quiet your room is and how close the speakers are to your head, this can be very distracting as it's noticeable even 2 feet away. The Edifiers also produce hiss but very faint hiss that can only be hear 0.5 feet away from the speaker. At a distance of 2 feet, nothing can be heard from it. This makes all the difference when you are listening to the intro of a classical song where they start out a bit quiet. On the JBLs, you'll be distracted slightly by the "sssssssssshhhhhhhh" along with some instruments. On the Edifier, it's just you and the music. Beautiful. The second and more problematic issue with the JBL speakers is ground-loop issues. The JBL LSR305s or any studio monitor for that matter is prone to ground-loop issues which results in buzzing noises coming out of your speakers. If you look up "nvidia gpu ground loop", you'd find many people having buzzing noises on their studio monitors when gaming on their computers or when their GPU is under load. I am glad to say the Edifier R2000DB does not have this issue at all while gaming. (It uses a 2 prong power plug, hence no ground and ground loop issues). In fact, I would say that if you are looking to upgrade your computer speakers and are still trying to decide between studio monitors and the R2000DB, save yourself some trouble and get the R2000DB. No audible hiss, no ground loop issues, no need to get an external DAC and optical out into it. Even if you had (almost impossible) buzzing issues with your R2000DB, it has built-in optical input and comes with a nice optical cable. It is absolutely ideal for computer use. Lastly, I found speaker placement for the Edifiers very forgiving. The JBLs need to be positioned at just the right angle. and spacing, and at the same level as your head to sound correctly. For the Edifiers, it seem like you could place them anywhere and it still sounds reasonable close. This was important to me as I was not going to use them as near field speakers. Revolving back to the bluetooth issue, there were a few times I had difficulty pairing to this speaker. The phone would try to pair but the connection would not be successful. I would be waiting for the bluetooth to connect and nothing would happen. It would take 2 to 3 manual tries before an actual connection could be made. It doesn't happen every time but it is annoying when it happens. I'm not sure why it is happening as my phone had no issues connecting to my various Anker speakers. However, since no other reviews mentioned Bluetooth issues, I suspect that either there is a defect on my particular set, or these speakers do not deal with the other 2.4 GHz interference (wifi, zigbee, wireless mice, xbox controller, etc) as well as the newer Bluetooth speakers. Overall, this is a very good speaker set at a reasonable price. You get super clean sound with great bass and a ton of input options. For computer use, it's a no brainer. Easy to connect and without the complications of actual studio monitors. Unfortunately, I bought these to use as bluetooth speakers and bluetooth is what I'm having problems with. On sound, packaging and features alone, this deserves at least 4 stars. If the bluetooth issues are fixed, these would be easily 5 stars.

I can tell you, if you are looking for smaller speakers with a MASSIVE sound, with insane volume - at no distortion either (I could only ever cause distortion on purpose by pushing EQ settings too far etc) - these things are AMAZING for hardcore Music loving, or just chilling and watching some Amazon Prime Video - no matter what you do - they will sound great! I have done a TON of research before buying, I almost went with Klipsch's R15PM set - but EVERY audio magazine I compared the reviews directly between the R2000DB and the R15PMs - on the same outlets, EVERY reviewer was taken aback by the R2000DB's sound and ability to fill an enormous space, and how crisp and clear the soundstage was! Meanwhile the R15PM got good reviews, but none of the reviewers seemed half as enthusiastic about the performance of the product, with summaries of "R15PM sounds great, and will suit a small listening space well." When the SAME reviewer said (paraphrasing) "The R200DBs shocked us with their clarity and the sound stage is immense, every note is crisp and well placed - the volume of the sound was so great that it could comfortably fill even a decent sized venue with plenty of music" And that was the same reviewer talking about the R200DB and its priced competitor from a MUCH more well known brand, a brand that has been in the upper Echelons of Audio for the better part of 100 years - and by every metric I can find, Edifier who actually got some AMAZING talent from audio engineers from big names across the globe - managed to beat out the best in the space with just the ~10 or so years that Edifier has existed as an International HiFi Audio brand! It is really inspiring to think, the man who started Edifier started out by selling cheap PC speakers to mainland China, but his passion was always making the best Audio Equipment possible - and after he put out an open call to Audio Engineers, quite a few BIG names in the Acoustic Research community checked out Edifier, and the CEO/Owner's plans and QUICKLY joined the company! The rest, as they say, is history - and that means affordable TOP TIER AUDIO! (5/11/21 UPDATE:) (I have now been using these speakers for well over a month, and whilst my initial review will stand as all of it is true, I have ONE MINOR GRIPE - I wish Edifier had given the Bass Drivers a little more headroom, either a higher max wattage and/or a driver that can throw a little further and withstand more power. It is by NO MEANS a huge design flaw - as Bass only starts to distort when the volume is up significantly on a song with heavy bass notes. The SOUND is still PERFECT! I just wish I could say that no matter what abuse I try to throw at these speakers it would always sound just as perfect. And I want to reiterate the FACT that the Bass sound is AMAZING for the size - it is only when you really push the drivers that they distort a bit on heavy bass, which is a shame. - This, and the lack of a dedicated Sub Out are the reasons I have downgraded to a 4 out of 5 star, but on a 100 scale, I would still rate them a solid 90!m If the bass drivers could NOT distort, and there was also a Sub out on this unit - like there is on the R1850DB - those 2 tings would have meant a PERFECT 100 out of 100!) Well, now that I know Edifier is truly Amazing, maybe I will eventually upgrade to the S2000 MkII - as that has basically everything I could want, and I KNOW the sound will be UNPARALLELED! These little things punch EVERY BIT AS HARD as the OLD BIG BOYS! Read below, I am a 90s kid and was an audiophile ever since the days of GIANT Stereo systems cause so is my dad - and he hooked me up way back in the day too. Use the Optical Input for best sound, if you can! And they have PLENTY of volume to fill a relatively large room, should be perfectly at home in a room with about 12' by 12' of space - stereo separation is PERFECT - and sound is CRYSTAL clear - especially using the Optical Audio for input! First of all, I have been someone who can easily hear distortions and bad mixes, ever since I was 5 and my dad's giant Carver stereo with 4 HUGE Altec Speakers (which acted as corner tables they were that big) I have ALWAYS been an Audiophile since I was a little kid, back in the good old 90s of MASSIVE full stereo systems - he gave me his old Technics receiver to use in my stereo system - it was a SWEET piece for a 10 year old kid too! I had some Pioneer's with a 12" woofer, with 5" mids and 2" tweeters - it was 60 watts RMS per channel as well - I even bought upgraded speakers for the cabinets as they were old when I got them, I overbuilt them. Anyway TL:DR This sound BETTER than my old GIANT stereo, and ALMOST as loud and as booming as pop's old Carver + Altecs - and mind you, the entire cabinet for one of these speakers takes up less space than the 14" woofers on Dad's old Altecs! ALL THAT - and the Bass is ALMOST as loud, basically EVERY BIT AS DEEP - and handles the mids and highs even better from what I can recall! And that is not hyperbole - those old Giant Alties had a rated response of 40 Hz to 20 KHz at +/-3 Db - ALL high end audio is rated MUCH more tightly, with not more than 3db of pop or dropoff allowed to make the spec - and these little beauties have a 5.25' Woofer - STILL manage 54 Hz to 20 KHz response within said +/- 3db rating - and that is no joke! Music is best when I can not only hear every single little nuance and note - and loud enough that I can feel it in my chest when the bass swells, and I can hear the spatial positioning of every single note no matter how soft - the "Stereo Imaging" as it is called - that these R2000DBs provide is BEYOND Excellent! For me, the louder the music, the more I FEEL the song, and the easier it is to hear defects - but a good track on these speakers sounds FLAWLESS even at basically MAX volume which is so loud, I can scream at the top of my lungs and not hear a PEEP! My bro was pounding the wall really hard to get my attention as he needed to make a phone call and I was testing these SWEET SPEAKERS out! I am honestly not able to describe how amazing it sounds in person when dialed on on a good EQ from the source. I run Bass at about +1.8 Db and Treble at +4 Db on the back of the speakers, it seems to be the right mix for my uses. My setup does have all sound coming from the built in Audio Circuitry of my ASRock Z370 Gaming K6 motherboard - I use my PC for both gaming, and watching "TV" (I use Xfinity Online for actual TV-TV, and of course the 3 big streaming services) - and listening to Music - I have a WIDE range in taste - which lets me REALLY see how good a speaker system is! Anyway point is - I can REALLY hear quality sound in music, and Optical is the BEST Audio connector to use for up to 5.1 channels not compressed - with 7.1 possible compressed IIRC - Optical is a sort of open standard though, so it all depends on implementation. On these speakers - USE OPTICAL INPUT - If you can! I tried A-B testing against a 3.5mm stereo plug going into the Component Audio on these speakers with the Optical input, and compared to the optical input, in my case at least - the 3.5mm audio sounded muddied and compressed compared to the PERFECTLY crisp Optical input! Anyway I LOVE THESE SPEAKERS! 9.5 out of 10! Only thing I MIGHT ask for still, is a Sub-out (luckily my PC has one) and for the R2000DB to be updated to use HDMI audio in as well as the current connectivity - as HDMI audio is supposedly the cleanest - but I probably would use Optical anyway. And MAYBE just a little more overhead in the Amps - I would LOVE for it to be impossible to cause distortion no matter what I do - but that is unreasonable anyway, its not like anything sounds good with the EQ maxed on every slider - as well as the Bass and Treble control on the speakers. You don't QUITE have to max things out to get a little distortion - but this complaint is all but meaningless, as that it already beyond ear damagingly high volumes - so more just a bragging rite than anything I suppose. I looked at the detailed specs, and unless you are NEAR max volume - these speakers register at ~0.03% THD or less! I mean you can crank the volume the whole way and you CANNOT hear any hiss unless you put your ear right next to the tweeter! (FYI if you do not know, ANYTHING below 1% THD - Total Harmonic Distortion, basically means that you cannot hear ANY noise that does not belong there - even top rated UBER expensive amps rarely get to 0.03%) - of course if you are pushing the digital amp circuit too far, you will start getting to 1% and beyond when playing music too loudly. And for me to say a, well - not cheap, but not super expensive, audio device is a 9.5 out of 10 in sound and features, that means I am EXTREMELY IMPRESSED!
