SHANY Artisan's Easel 18-Piece Brush Collection - Black

I ordered this set after seeing a really gross video where someone grows mold, bacteria and fungus in a Petri dish from a swipe of a “clean” makeup brush. For obvious reasons I decided to swap mine out and start fresh. Instead of going to hunt down new brushes and spending a fortune, I decided to check Amazon and the quality seems great. I was not expecting these to be so similar to the better brushes in my collection, but they are dense, tightly packed, and super soft just like a $40+ brush if not better. In my initial inspection of the brushes I did not experience much shedding. A couple of them lost a fiber or two. I like that the brush tips are light in color so I can make sure they are clean. The holder is very convenient both for display and organizing and for travel purposes. Compared to a different cheaper set I also ordered, this provides a lot more value because all the brushes have purpose, and this also comes with the holder. This set comes with more of the larger brushes like a large tapered brush, stippling brush, and a medium powder brush, when compared to cheaper sets. The only brushes this set lacks are a very large powder brush, eyebrow wand and eyelash comb, which can always be purchased separately. I prefer disposable tools for brow and lash and rarely ever use a large powder brush, so it doesn’t bother me. Overall I would recommend this set to amateur or professional makeup users. The brushes that it comes with are suitable for 99% of everyday makeup needs and it was very affordable.

I have never been less than completely satisfied with a Shany product. I bought my daughter a train case for her makeup, and it was great quality and very durable, for a reasonable price. I made the mistake of buying another brand for my wife and it lacked quality. As for the Shany brushes, this is our third set. Both their natural and synthetic brushes are fantastic. They are reasonable, they tend not to shed much, if at all, and they are very soft on the skin. The Pros of this set are obvious: great quality, fantastic selection of brushes, nice case, and very reasonable price. The only con to this set is not owning it! This set is perfect if you want some common brushes, but are really looking for eye shadow brushes. There are at least 6 brushes specifically designed for eye shadow, along with a few others you could use on lids and around eyes as well. The case is nice, and holds all the brushes, which are labeled on their shaft. I really like that feature, so the brush tells you its intended use, rather than a separate piece of paper or the case, etc. You can also keep the case folded open and it will support itself upright. I have seen some people say the brushes are made in the USA. I believe they are made in China, in case that matters to you. Any Shany brush set we have owned has worn exceptionally well and I expect no different from this one. These are great brushes, and for the price absolutely incredible.

This is a great set of brushes for blending and application of makeup. I think that the quality of these brushes is a great value for the price. I love the fact that these are great for different uses and also that the brushes are labeled for what purpose they're used for. I haven't used every single brush yet, but just the feel of them is soft and not scratchy. I really like how they are just the right level of softness for my skin, but are also firm enough to apply makeup properly. Although they smelled like plastic/chemicals upon opening, the smell was minimized after washing them. I think that the smell will probably go away after multiple uses when I've been able to break them in. I'd definitely recommend these brushes for anybody looking for something to start out or practice with, and I can't wait to show these to my friends! Pros -The brushes are soft and not scratchy on skin. -They are firm enough to apply makeup precisely and evenly. -The value and quality are great for the price. Cons -There was a chemical or plastic smell coming from them upon opening the box, but it will go away after continued use and regular cleaning. -I'm assuming the 2 cream-colored brushes people are referring to are the EC001 tapered crease and ES007 pointed smudger eyeshadow brushes. These brushes truly are worse in quality compared to the rest, and I'd recommend using other eyeshadow brushes for better application. -There's no information about what material the brushes are made out of other than "natural and synthetic bristles." It would be nice to know what the bristles are made of in case anybody with allergies buys this product. I personally haven't had any issues yet, but I'd recommend labeling this clearly since some of my family members and friends have had allergic reactions to natural hair brushes in the past.

I am going to try helping you out by doing two reviews in 1. I was indecisive on which makeup kit to purchase so I decided to buy both and would give one of them to a friend. Both kits arrived ahead of schedule and together which made it easy to review this quickly. For starters, I am not a makeup expert and could be considered a beginner trying to play around with more now that I am getting older. To be honest, I love the overall brushes and how it has the name of brush written on each one. The softness of the brushes are amazing and it feels great on my skin. Unfortunately, that is where my love for this kit ends. I was excited because of how it displayed the brushes but you have to be extremely careful putting it up or other brushes will fall out. Even when packing it up, you'll need to carry it sideways because they will still fall out. I purchased this kit because of how it displayed the brushes, so I have to admit that I am disappointed. I will probably remove them from the case and put them in a different make up bag. Speaking of the bag, I have attached a picture of both kits side by side. This bag looks like it is an old CD holder...that was purchased at the dollar store. The other is more visually appealing. I am not saying to purchase the other makeup brush kit over this one, just stating the pros and cons. While the other is more attractive, it does not name the brushes like this kit. They both carry 2 completely different brush sets so overall, I am not disappointed. Just please don't buy this if you are using it for the display factor, because you will be disappointed.

Excellent quality! Professional quality actuality!

These brushes are amazing. my husband purchased these for me for my birthday and they actually arrived 2 days sooner than they were supposed to. they were expected to come May 4th and they arrived on May 2nd. So shipping was very fast and they arrived very well protected. all the brushes came in a nice pouch as displayed in the picture and they were all individually wrapped. One downside is that when I open the package there was a strong smell to it that smelt like acetone almost. I would definitely recommend washing the brushes before you use them for the first time (which you should do with all new face brushes.) I believe that This is a great set for beginners, each brush is labeled with what it is used for obviously you can use them for more than what their label for as I do but for those who are new to makeup it's a great guide to go by And this set come with a little booklet with brush info in it and it's a great bonus. Each brush is solid and heavy, they feel rather expensive. The bristles are really soft but firm and they pick up a great amount of product. There's only one brush out of this whole kit that I do not like and that is the es007 pointed smudger- eyeshadow brush. this brush is extremely hard and almost feels as if it's made with hog hair it definitely works but is painful on the eyes other than that I'm absolutely in love with these brushes. For the price they are absolutely amazing and very affordable.

I have been looking for quite a while for a good set of brushes. My personal favorite type of brushes are kabuki style brushes and wanted a set that I can use for all my daily make up application with very good quality for the price. These met my expectations and more! The packaging is very professional and makes you feel like you've just bought high quality expensive brushes. The box it came in is very appealing straight forward and the brush pouch/stand organizer is well designed. I LOVE how it looks like a cute black little purse for your brushes and when u open it it's very sturdy to stand on its own and the elastic that holds each brush. The brushes itself of course is my favorite part. 😊 They are extremely soft, nice full and thick bristles like a kabuki brush should be. I also like the weight to a brush when handling it as u apply your make up just like these ones do. Lastly, each brush are numbered and labeled for what type of application it's for just like high end brushes have. I highly recommend this set to anyone who is looking for high quality set of brushes for their daily use and more. You don't have to spend so much money to get the well known high end brands. Definitely looking forward to checking out more products from Shany Cosmetics. 😊

This was purchased as a gift for my teenage cousin, who is just getting into cosmetics. Even though I have about a million brushes already, I think i just might purchase a set of these for myself! The brushes were packaged really well and the bristles are quite soft. There's a good variety here that you could just pack this set if you were travelling, and the brush holder/easel seems nice and sturdy. This set comes packaged in a nice box, and each brush is individually wrapped in plastic. My only gripe is the strong glue smell when removed from its packaging...just air them out/wash them and you should be good to go! Edited 6/23/16: As stated in my earlier review, this set was a gift and the recipient was more than thrilled! I have soooo many brushes already, but after checking out the first set and seeing how soft and nicely made they were, I finally caved. Every time I went back to buy my set, they seemed to be sold out, but then it was quickly restocked. When I purchased them, they were no longer Prime eligible, and had an arrival estimate of just over a week...no big deal...for the extreme value of this set I can wait. To my surprise, they actually showed up 2 days later, so I was beyond thrilled! Very happy with these brushes, this seller, and that this set is getting more and more attention!
