## Description

Product Description Bish's Original Tear Mender Instant Fabric and Leather Adhesive utilizes a powerful formula, the quick drying adhesive instantly adheres to any material it can penetrate, forming a waterproof bond strong enough for use on work clothes, awnings, tents, boat covers, tarps, leather, convertible tops, and more. Features: water-proof, permanent, quick-dry, flexible, UV resistant and acid-free. From the Manufacturer Val “The Bish” Cismoski originally formulated Tear Mender in 1932. His nickname was a result of his imposing physical presence and his knack for having an answer to any and all questions which family members said reminded them of a Bishop. Tear Mender’s impenetrable bond quickly made it a staple in the farm industry and was used to repair canvas drive belts for farm machinery. Today, Tear Mender continues to provide the same flexible, permanent bond and is widely used for a multitude of tasks from garment care to crafts. In 2015, Lighthouse for the Blind, a 501(c)3 non-profit, acquired the assets of Tear Mender to further grow their mission of providing employment for individuals who are blind. The Tear Mender product line is filled, packaged and shipped by employees who are visually impaired.

Review: The best way to fix a stuffed animal PERIOD!!!! - Not long ago, I put my small stuffed elephant in the wash with a large blanket. When I removed it from the dryer along with the blanket, I noticed a small tear on its right ear. At first I would attempt to learn how to sew and fix its ear manually, but since I bought it used about a year ago, I wasn’t sure how long the repair would last. Then I remembered seeing Bish’s Tear Mender on a tv shopping channel a few years back and I figured that I would give it a shot. Granted I considered other fabric glues based on product reviews here on desertcart and YouTube reviews but with this product being around almost for 100 years, I figured this would be the best glue for the job. Once I received it, I put a small amount of the tear mender in a small disposable plastic bathroom cup and used a toothpick and a QTip to fix the tear on my elly’s right ear. Overall the product was easy to use and it held strong even 24 hours after initial application. It had a slight smell but not too bad as to open up a window. So about three weeks in, I decided to give my friend another washing. As you can see by the pictures, the tear mender still holds strong even after being put in the washer and dryer on warm and cold water and medium heat to dry. Overall the functionality of this product and the overall hold made it a real winner in my book. Thus if you are looking for a good way to fix your little one’s favorite stuffed toy without using a needle and thread, I highly recommend Tear Mender. It is the best way to fix a stuffed animal and any tears in fabric PERIOD!!!! It definitely does what it says on the bottle!!!!
Review: More than just tear mender - The more I use this product, the more I like it. I have used it to patch several pairs of jeans that were wearing thin, strengthen a buttonhole, give a button rivet some padding, and add a rug to the bottom of a dog bed where the dogs dug through the original bottom and pulled out all the stuffing. The product is just as described, liquid latex. Dab it on, let it penetrate the fabric pieces, and let it dry. The end result is a latex rubber bond that is durable and stretchable. In the dog bed, I used a whole bottle (probably overkill) to seal the rug completely to the sides of the dog bed. The dogs cannot get any purchase on the seam so they have been totally unable to rip it apart. And they have tried repeatedly. The jeans are equally as solid. The one problem I had with the jeans was that I did not allow the glue to dry thoroughly so it managed to penetrate both pieces of fabric as well as another piece where I had thought it dry and threw it against another pair of jeans. I can attest that the glue is every bit as strong as the jean material, and it will not pull apart no matter how much you try. The solution is to let the material dry for about a day to make sure it is 100% dry. I did find that the glue has a definite shelf life no matter how much you think you have closed it. I discovered this when I had not used the glue for a while then found something else that needed gluing. The glue had formed a rubber bladder inside the bottle which I was able to extract by gently pulling it away from the bottle. The inner pocket of glue was still liquid and usable. The bladder was just like a rubber balloon. Not sure how useful this feature will be, but it is there is you need it. This is a great product any time you need to glue two or more permeable objects together, it can also be used to turn a permeable object into an impermeable one by giving the material a light coat. It is durable and flexible and very easy to clean off fingers. I love it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Assuming the the top is closed properly, does it dry out if used infrequently?**
A: We bought a set of this after seeing a commercial about it a couple years ago - it was a three pack, I think. I large, medium, and small one. We bought it as a "just in case" item and I have rarely had to use it - it works wonderfully. It's tricky though - and seeps through fabric so I would apply with a quick, light touch. It dries fast, too - a bit too fast for my. Anyway/// I hadn't used it in a while, but last year I needed to use it a couple of times on some fabric I was crafting with. The first time I tried to use it - nothing came out. I shook the bottle, but heard little movement and when I opened the cap I was disappointed to see that it had dried up - there was a thick skin inside. I thought I might go ahead and just use the bottle for something else so started to pull the thick, strong skin out and realized there was still some liquid on the inside (as it splashed on my hands while I was pulling at the glue skin). Once I was able to wiggle the dried skin out - there was some glue in the bottle and it was usable. After that I closed the cap and put it back on the shelf. The second time I needed it again - months later - the same thing - there was a glue skin covering the inside of the bottle that I had to remove and then there was some fluid glue on the inside that I could use normally. I was disappointed about that thick skin developing each time. I'm not sure how much of the glue is hardening each time, but it's enough to know I probably am losing a lot of this expensive glue just because it's drying in the bottle. I'm afraid to go look into the LARGE and MEDIUM UNUSED bottles that have just been on the shelf! Again, the product works a dream once you figure out how to handle it. Shame that it skins in the bottle though - hoping I didn't waste a ton of money. This may be something bought one small bottle at a time, on sale - unless you have a definite need for it.

**Q: Will it work to repair Muck boots?**
A: I think it depends on what parts of the muck boot.

This product is primarily intended for adhering porous and semi-porous materials together, like fabric and leather. I really question its strength with smooth plastics, especially under stress.

**Q: Does it dry clear? I want to fix snake leather tear on the shoe. Will it stay? If not, any other products to suggest?**
A: It depends, on dark fabric it does not dry clear. I am not sure if it will fix a snake leather tear in a shoe - not sure if it would be be tough enough and flexible enough for that application.

**Q: I have a tiny tear in my motorbike seat. i presume it is a vinyl fabric. do you guys think this is a good fit to mend this before it gets bigger?**
A: Tear Mender is perfect for this kind of repair! Your best option would be to purchase the Tear Mender kit that includes a patch, item #B000BQKER0. You would cut the patch at least a half inch wider than the tear and then insert it into the tear opening. Use your finger tip to apply Tear Mender to the underside of the vinyl and the upside of the patch and press together for about 15 seconds. Allow 2 hours to cure before sitting on the seats. There are complete directions in the box you will receive. Good luck and enjoy!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works - solid choice

works well - meets expectations. I repaired a belt loop on a pair of jeans, and straps on ice hockey shoulder pads and shin guards. Easy to apply and clean, dries relatively quickly
