We used granulated sugar in it. It was cheaply made & did not dispense the sugar well at all. **Q: Does this get sugar from the bottom on your counter?** A: I have that problem - even when I fully let the sugar dispense using the lever, there's always *some* left that finds its way to leak out and because of sugar getting caught in the lever mechanism, sometimes it's a sugar powder. In general I love this thing because of knowing just how much sugar it is giving me, but it's messy.
