I have done this several times. Note that it may change the color slightly (a little yellowish), but it makes the finish much more durable. I recommend a satin or semi-gloss if you want a smooth finish. I've used matte before as well, where I wanted to make the surface a little rougher (distressed furniture, or stairs on a ladder). **Q: Can this bbe thinned to get a smooth finish?** A: i do not know, i did not try but if you use a hi quality brush its not too bad . I found brush it out 1 time and do not go back over it an the finish is acceptable **Q: I have a table that has a cut out groove all the way around (which i hate). if i use this on top of a gel stain to refinish, will it fill that groove?** A: My experience with the product was that if it collected heavy in a crack or around a metal fastener, it dried pretty white rather than clear, so I would expect it to not be clear in the groove ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review *by A***R on 6 October 2019* Used it on birchyply : its amazing crystal clear semi gloss finish looks super premium.
