Gold is 1500 and Flex is 1300. **Q: will it heat a steel can inside a glass jar with the glass jar on the cooktop?** A: First, don't do this. If it works, the can will get hot and it will transfer that heat to the glass. You'll probably shatter the jar by having it get very hot in a small area while remaining cool everywhere else. That being said, induction cookers work by generating a magnetic field with causes magnetic metal to heat up. If the can is close enough to the cooktop, it will heat up even while inside the glass jar. **Q: why does it say not to place on a gas range?** A: Gas ranges have metal surfaces, the cooktop cannot be placed on any magnetic metal surface.
