Honestly, my NuWave's have all lasted a very long time each with daily use. I won't be without one. **Q: Can this cooktop be set for lower wattages than the maximum of 1500 watts?** A: Yes. There are settings for 600 and 900watts as well as the 1500 **Q: How big is the cooking area? Description says 8 inch, when boiling water, only the center 5 inch is boiling.** A: The printed ring/ heating area is 8 inches in diameter. The cooktop has 2 glowing induction heat rings when it's on, a smaller inner about 5 inches and the outer 8 inch ring. I know that it adjusts which ring(s) to use depending on the size of the vessel being used. Not sure how it could differentiate whether you're boiling water or cooking something else. I boil water for pasta etc in a large pot and both inner and outter heat rings are on. Hope that helps **Q: Does the burner shut off when you flip your food?** A: No it will not. The unit is designed to stop if the pan is removed for over 70 seconds. If a pan is removed for 10 seconds or less the PIC will automatically resume cooking once its placed back on the PIC.
