I have 2 shelties, a double coated breed. I use this wooden bristled brush as the first pass, it seems gentler to get coat in some sort of order, and find the worst knots. Then I turn to a Chris Christensen with metal bristles. But finally, I need to use a pin brush to get at the undercoat. It is a well made brush, and feels good to work with. **Q: Is this brush made in Germany?** A: YES and I recommend it highly. Our coton de tulear has very soft curly hair, more like fur, tends to mat. This brush works very well and is small enough to fit in palm of hand so your dog won't see it if he/she is anxious about grooming. **Q: Which wood pin brush is best for a Havanese with a 4 inch long coat?** A: I use this brush on one of my long haired cats. It wouldn't work at all on my sheltie because of his undercoat. On the cat, it doesn't tackle knots; rather it collects loose hair, smooths the coat and conditions the skin. It probably would be a nice finishing brush for your dog, especially if static is a problem. **Q: I need a small brush for my yorkie, is this good for silk coats? Can I brush him dry with this?** A: I have raised and shown yorkies and don't suggest a dry brush on them if their hair is long. Even with the wooden bristles on this, hair will break if it is dry. Try spritzing a bit of conditioner or a light oil before brushing. This will keep the hair smooth and silky. It will allow the brush to glide through the hair easier with less breakage.
