After fencing off an area to keep the bunnies and my own dogs away from our garden area, I became faced with the problem of how to deal with the smaller creatures who also visit my garden ares and eat as much as their tummies will allow and this of course takes away from the crops we should be harvesting for our own wants and needs. Enter the bird netting, the 3/4 openings to keep the birds away and are also to small for the squirrels and chipmunks to get through so I am very pleased with this so far, the 3/4 inch openings are just large enough for the honey bees to pass through without any problem. The netting does not shadow the crops so they do get enough sunlight to keep the crops growing and producing. I have also noticed that the netting does not stay tangled and is easy to untangle when it does happen, the one flaw is nothing that can be helped however as 3 of our chipmunks have lost their lives when they attempted to pass through the openings and become tangled in the netting and choke themselves when they struggle to escape the net. I did however manage to save one of the critters as I was close enough when it got caught. Yes I am pleased and this winter I will build a wooden greenhouse frame to go over the tops of the 2 greenhouses I have and will use 1/2 " metal 2 foot tall hardware cloth across the bottom and this bird netting will be use to cover the roof and a big part of the side walls. This combination will be the very last step in my garden security from Mother Natures critter helpers. Review: A Good value and well packaged - I thought about making it a 4 star review because of the thinness of the nets, but in most applications not directly on berry bushes but these nets do their job and are a 5 star value compared to similar weaker nonwoven plastic nets. This is strong (but thin) woven nylon netting. The netting was well packaged with a cloth bag plus (10) plastic push stakes and a bag of plastic wire ties. (Neither of which I used). This netting is strong but also wire thin and not a good idea to put directly on berry bushes as it easily catches leaves, berries and branches. It's much better for an enclosure. I have an enclosure for my other berries, but for these two outlier bushes, I built standoff tees to keep nets right off the bushes, but I still stripped a couple of pounds of berries off the bushes installing. You get about 100% light transmission with these nets because of their thin weave, (which is not really neccessary for blueberries). I'm hoping they're cat proof too, for the errant bird that finds it s way under the nets. Cats easily rip up the cheap spun plastic nets going after trapped birds. I bury all edges and stake every few feet with 6" sod pins. Yes, it was quite the pain to cut to size for our purposes, but in use, it's great! The stretchiness and durability of the cording works well. Even though we have it draped over some metal t-posts which do have some sharp edges on top, the netting is holding up well and the threads aren't being cut. I am using 6" metal landscaping staples which I bought separately to secure the netting to the ground. No critters are getting in, and I'm harvesting an outstanding crop of organic blueberries! Yummmm! PREVIOUS REVIEW: This fish net style of bird netting was difficult to use for our purposes. If you're planning on keeping it whole and not cutting it up into smaller sections to use in different parts of your garden, then I'm sure that it would be fine. However, I wanted to cut it up, and found it very difficult to spread out evenly on the lawn so that I could measure it. It's very stretchy, and is made of nylon string, instead of the more rigid plastic that I've used before. The plastic netting which has little squares is much easier to cut in a straight line. But, I think that this string will probably be more durable. I bought little stainless steel 6" hoops to press into the ground to hold it down.
