Pokémon Legends: Arceus - US Version

Really loved how this game was designed. Perfect for any Pokémon enthusiasts.

One of my favorite games of all time, best money I’ve spent!

Let's nip one issue in the bud. This game, along with others of its kind, suffer from the limitations of the system it is on. The clearest example is the slow FPS of objects in the far distance, which funny enough is intentionally programmed into these games to prevent further quality degradation during playthrough. It's not really this game's fault, and the developers did wonderful work around it. If you can live with that visual you're in for a treat. The gameplay flow is absolutely wonderful. It does what main-series Pokémon can not: Make catching and collecting fun. The problem with main-series games is it holds on to traditional RPG mechanics too tightly in an era where they've the option to upgrade and improve. Legends Arceus does this with eliminating "You've Caught XYZ! Now look at it's Pokédex Entry, again!" and applying lock-on targeting and real-time action with the catching. Pokémon attack and run away, making it a skill to smack with a Pokéball. Included with each dex entry is a long list of tasks, not all of which are required to progress but for those who enjoy total completion it adds some variety. Shiny hunting is an enjoyment compared to previous entries and the future entry of Scarlet and Violet. Every shiny is accompanied with both a visual and auditory notification so you know it is there. Story wise, the game dives into lore about the Pokémon universe. This does not mean you need to know it to enjoy the story, but it helps they released Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl to give you an idea of what this region is. You do end up caring about the characters you meet, as opposed to a game like Sword/Shield which fails in the story department. Boss fights are also a tricky and fun experience, and you'll find yourself with plenty of challenges along the way. I consider this to be the best Pokémon game they've made thus far. Scarlet/Violet do continue with improved storytelling and better open-world design. But, Legends Arceus is very polished in design and concept.

I remember when Pokémon first came out. And at the time it was revolutionary in game design. However, that formula didn't ever seem to grow with the gaming industry. Minor enhancements to each new installment weren't enough to give me the same sense of wonder and excitement. Every new title felt like the same title before it, with new Pokémon names. There was never any real challenge to the games either. Then they came out with Pokémon Sword and Shield, and for the first time in a very long time I felt recaptured. I wondered "Where will they go next?" Pokémon BDSP felt like a cheap remake cash grab (and the game was shipped unfinished essentially). But then came this game. And I understood why they wanted to bring Diamond and Pearl back to the modern era (still a cheaply made cash grab). Pokémon Arceus introduced to us a wide open world where we had to actually hunt down Pokémon at various times and weather patterns. It introduced survival mechanics found in Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which made the adventure feel even more alive. And there was challenge here too. Because it wasn't something Pokémon fans had already experienced 1000s of hours before and mastered. It was new. It was fresh. That's not to say this game doesn't have its short comings. But they are FAR less than previous games. People complain about the art style. I don't hate it. It matches the art style of the aesthetics they were going for. What I am thinking is more along the lines of the actual "bosses" of the game. There should have been more of them. The trainer battles are NEARLY non-existent. And to some that's a breath of fresh air. But this is Pokémon. The only trainer battles that spring to mind when I think back to my time playing are the 3 bandits that try to jump you in the wild if you enter their area. Over and over and over. Just those three. Having more flavor could've made the world seem a bit more dangerous. Perhaps if they added other types of trainers that only appeared to jump you at certain times of day or during certain weather effects. Things that really caught you off guard. But overall, I was happy with all of the other changes. I liked that the Pokédex had it's own quests for each Pokémon entry. I like that you could swap out moves without the need for a special NPC. I loved coming across a mossy boulder in the forest, and seeing suddenly my Eevee wanted to evolve. The world of Pokémon has potential to feel alive and dangerous and this game really took a running leap towards that. If this is a preview of the formula for games to come, count me back into the franchise. Let's just hope it's not another 25 years before they decide to do better.

Actually one of the better Pokemon games in a long time. Still looks like crap and feels clunky but that's modern Pokemon games for you

Game is super fun. It starts off slow, with walls of text to get through at the start as it sets up the setting and story and only one area to play around in. After you unlock some stuff and open up all the areas and features though, this game is easily my favorite Pokemon game. The battles are quick and satisfying, not needing to load into some little battle screen. You just toss out your pokemon and FIGHT right then and there. You can also run around the battle field too while the pokemon fight each other, so you can easily flee a nasty encounter if you need to. Also the pokemon can just straight up attack YOU now, so better learn how to dodge roll like it's DarkSouls. Catching is quicker too, as you can sneak up on Pokemon and huck a ball at them. Getting a back strike ups your chance of catching them outright without even needing to battle them, letting you fill out that pokedex faster. Also the Pokedex is actually fun to fill out now as you have all these little sub objectives for each Pokemon to fill out it's entry, like catch multiple of them, or catch them at night, or observe them doing something specific, etc. The alpha Pokemon are a fun addition, letting you fight and capture some super sized Pokemon that will usually tower over you and most of your other Pokemon. I'm rather fond of my nine foot tall Lucario. Game feels faster and fresher than any Pokemon game yet, feels like it has way more to do too and you can evolve all Pokemon you catch that can evolve without worrying about trading and stuff as items allow you to evolve them. There isn't much to multiplayer unlike previous games, this is mostly focused on single player. Also the graphics are ugly in some areas, and that's putting it kindly. If those two things don't bother you, and you enjoy Pokemon, then you'll likely love this game as much as I did.

I ordered this to the USA from Japan just because of the promo card but I did not receive the promo card in the order. Waste of time and money

bon petit jeu d aventure pokemon amusant avec une histoire et des combats et des discussions avec des personnages. parfait pour les amateurs de pokemon mais aussi les enfants car il n es pas trop dur a jouer. c est dommage qu il n y a pas de mise a jour pour la switch 2 pour ce jeu jusqu a maintenant.
