Canon PGI-220 Genuine Black Triple Pack, Compatible with MP980, MP560, MP620, MP640, MP990, MX860, MX870, iP4600, iP3600, and iP4700 Printers

I purchased these genuine Canon ink cartridges (3pk PGI-220 black ink along with the 4pk PGI-221 color ink)for the third time from Amazon Fullfilment Warehouse because I have learned the hard way. I have replaced a couple of good Epson printers due to clogged print heads and leaking compatible ink cartridges. Yes, genuine ink cartridges are expensive and yes, compatible ink cartridges are supposed to save you a few bucks. In reality, both are false and here's why. Printers are now cheaper and much better than a few years ago because they use smaller dropplets of ink to deliver a smooth and rich print. Compatible ink cartridges for some reason just DO NOT deliver the quality control to compete with the GENUINE named brand. Even the black print is uniform and the color ink is vibrant, your printed mater is crisp and your color photos look alive by using GENUINE named ink cartridges. Yes, genuine named brand ink cartridges are expensive about the price of a good printer but that's the price you pay for QUALITY CONTROL and in the long run that is priceless. I thought I would ever say this, but when your printer becomes clogged and or leaking from "cheap" generics your headaches and cost start adding up quickly besides your blood pressure. Your lost time for a printed assignment or a photo job just stopped cold because of clogged print heads and or leaking cartridges. If time is crucial, you will pay more to purchase a new printer, buy genuine ink cartridges (if all is available in one store,) the driving around, the gasoline, the parking, the long lines, add time (in hours or days) and lots of money. If time is not of the essence Amazon has the best prices for quality printers and genuine named ink cartridges. I will never compromise again in time and money, Amazon delivers to my house, great genuine products, great warranty, pay no taxes, cheaper than retail prices, and FREE SHIPPING. I always purchase canon ink carts from Amazon as they always have the best price. There appears to be some confusion in the comments regarding ink usage. If you do a lot of printing every day, then you will get excellent usage results. If you only print a page or two three time a week, then you will get horrible usage. The reason is that Canon printers cycle through a regular nozzle cleaning process that uses the actual ink to clean the nozzles. If you leave your printer off when not in use, then it will help with the ink usage. Every time you turn your printer on, it will cycle through the nozzle cleaning process. If you leave your printer on, it will cycle on a timed basis. I once went for about six or seven months without doing any colored printing, and a couple of colored cartridges ran dry just from the cleaning process. I've spoken with Canon tech support several times and haven't been able to find any better solution. I guess that it's simply the price you pay for the excellent results. I have friends who have successfully used compatible ink carts, but I also have a friend who ruined his printer by using such carts. It's just a risk you take to save some bucks. Good luck.

The place were I bought my printer didn't sell the ink for it for over a year. Then, they got the colors and the small black tanks, but not these big tanks that are required for the printer to run at all. Amazon offered a great deal on the 3-pack. What else can I say? It's a great toner for a great price. I did knock off one star because the packaging was smashed all to heck. Maybe not fair on the product itself, but important to me when I like to keep my supplies neat.

I didn't want to take any chances buying another brand (or refilled non-brand). These ink cartridges are expensive, though, and just a few changes in your print settings can double the lifespan. When on regular print settings, I noticed the paper was saturated in ink & the cartridge used up in no time. So, I changed the printing preferences to "grayscale" and "fast printing". This uses about half the ink and looks just fine to me. In fact, I prefer it because the printed copy comes out dry instead of wet with ink (that then needs to dry and could actually smudge). Printing in grayscale also saves the other colored inks -- especially when printing coupons or anything else that doesn't require high-quality printing. To further save on ink & avoid printing unnecessary stuff (like logos and advertising on various websites), you can change your print options to "print only the selected frame". Lastly, when the printer tells you the ink cartridge is empty and needs to be replaced -- just press the "ok" button on the printer and keep doing so it until your ink truly does run out. I was able to print out an additional 25 pages last time. Happy printing :-)

We go through a cartridge maybe every other month, with significant printing in between. Because we print mostly text, we use a lot of black toner. We get anywhere about 12 cents per page with this black cartridge (depending on how often and how many pages we print at a time, we got a range between 8 and 15 cents per page). I like getting the triple pack because this cartridge runs out more often than the color ink sets; I change the printer settings to print in grayscale and fast-mode when I print text only documents, which significantly saves me money by not having to use the color cartridges. I use original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Canon inks because I found them to be more reliable. These come with an LED that blinks and indicates how much ink is left, which blinks faster with less ink. I used Canon-compatible inks on a previous printer (Canon MX310), which clogged the print head several times, the last of which damaged the print heads. The MX870 replaced this printer, and since I only use OEM Canon ink cartridges I have had no issues whatsoever. Coincidence?! Maybe. But I do not want to go through the time, hassle, and cost of testing this hypothesis.

Real Canon ink cartridges arrived promptly and are working well!

I have a Cannon pixima mx870 printer. This ink is worth getting. It seldom clumps up or dries out. It almost always uses the entire tank. In fact, so far it has never failed but I hate to say never because there is always to chance. I like to keep a box or two ahead of my anticipated needs. This ink lasts a long time and produces more copies than several other inks I have used in the past. I don't have to mail back empties or go through the manufacturer either. So good deals can be had from different locations in addition to this site. You get your monies worth.
