Digitally remastered edition. Station to Station is the tenth studio album by rock legend David Bowie, released by RCA Records in 1976. Commonly regarded as one of his most significant works, Station To Station was the vehicle for his performance persona, the Thin White Duke. Musically, Station to Station was a transitional album for Bowie, developing the funk and soul music of his previous release, Young Americans, while presenting a new direction towards synthesizers and motorik rhythms that was influenced by German electronic bands such as Neu! And Kraftwerk. Blending funk and krautrock, romantic balladry and occultism, Station To Station has been described as "simultaneously one of Bowie's most accessible albums and his most impenetrable". But Bowie's genius just isn't well-served on this vinyl release, with major skipping in several songs on the record. Also, the packaging is unexpectedly skimpy and minimal. Why no liner notes? Perhaps even a nice gatefold? So, people who care about physical media should get what they pay for! And this kind of inattention to quality assurance threatens the vinyl revival, so I really wish labels and pressing plants would up their game here. I do want to note that desertcart's vinyl delivery packaging is now EXCELLENT. Before, they'd send vinyl packaged loose in a big box with no filling (or worse, just loose in a plastic bag). Now, every vinyl has its own protective envelope that secures the record and prevents any warping, bending, bumping, etc. Given the high risk of pressing errors with vinyl, I also really appreciate desertcart's return/replacement process. I got my second (sadly also defective) record mere days after I filed for a replacement.
