Is there an advantage to having one of these as well? Does it do anything different than the Oxo?** A: This has three removable julienne blades that have different widths from very fine to about 1/4 inch. The fine one is great for creating garnishes. With no julienne blade inserted it just slices. There is also an adjustment for thickness of the slice. The cutting blade is permanently built in and not removable. It is easy to clean and compact for easy storing. It is Japanese made, the blade is extremely sharp, and I find it is simple and functional and is my most used kitchen tool. You will likely not use your Oxo again. This one will last forever. **Q: it it BPA free?** A: Probably not. BPA was added to plastic to help its flexibility. This is rigid plastic. Food would be in contact with this for such a short time it likely never absorb it even it was present. **Q: It says the material it is made out of is ceramic, but it looks plastic. Is it ceramic?** A: The body of slicer is made of durable plastic and knives from high grade of stainless steel. There's no ceramic parts. Please ask the seller if there are any changes made by manufacturer to the product. **Q: How wide is the cutting surface?** A: You may want the widest type. The narrow has limited functionality. If you are familiar with whetstones you can sharpen the main cutting knife periodically.
