A perfect guide for newbs

Having very little experience with the Forti platform, I've found this book to be very informative. Yes, I do understand the book covers 6.2 and Fortinet is on 6.4 however, the test is still on 6.2 and most FortiPartners are still recommending 6.2 as bugs are being worked out in 6.4. Furthermore, I do not believe there is away for anyone to be able to compile a book, send it off for editing, have it published AND DELIVERED to consumers before the next release. That being said, I'm very happy to have purchased this book and will be utilizing it to obtain my NSE4 cert. I do hope books II, III, and IV will be out soon as I'd like to get my NSE4 here within the next few months.

Informative needs GLOSSARY

Some of the commands seem a little out of date but not much for being from a few years ago. Really needs a glossary in the next version other wise no complaints presently

Useful Information, Could Be Better

There are not very many books on this subject, and of these, this is probably the best. But on saying that, it could be better. First, I found many typos, and while I understood most sentences, this was a bit annoying. Second, the graphics are not that great. Many are pretty difficult to read, and with a magnifing glass, the resolution isn't the best. Finally, and I don't blame this on the author, many of the CLI commands simply don't work on my Fortigate. Now I have a 40F and I'm running FortiOS 6.4.2. The author is running 6.2 and has a 60E. Enough commands don't work that it can be quite frustrating. As an example, the book says Fortigates can use (page 34) UDP or HTTPS ports 8888 or 53 to access Fortiguard. Mine can only use HTTPS port 443 and it can't be changed. A change in 6.4? I have no idea. Anyway, frustrating.Anyway, this book has some helpful information, and its generally well written, but it would be hard for any book to be easy to understand for novices and still not bore those with more knowledge. I guess I was bored by some of it, but also learned some, so worth it for me. Like I say, good, but could be better.

Useless, out dated..

The test is now on FortiOS 7.0. Everything in this book is out dated.
