Why does this one have the blade edge to shingles and not the other side as others have it?

This ladder hook is meant to have the wheel feature used to roll the ladder up over the ridge and then the ladder is turned over to hook on the ridge.

I just came across this item. we do work off of roofs quite a bit. What are the wheels used for, or rather, what is the purpose of the wheels?

I'm new with that bracket , but what I did with the wheel is this: I place the wheel on the roof and you could roll the ladder up toward the top of the roof and then just you flip the ladder on hook side for hook it on the top of your roof.Is that make sense? Just be care full, as the wheel could roll on all direction and start going side way... I had modified my one by changing the wheel for wheel that are fix instead of those that pivot, but that was better for what I want to do with, may be there is a good reason for having the wheel that pivot and may be someone will give you an other opinion.

What are the dimensions of the hook portion? Need to go over a thick parapet.

6.75 inch opening. From flat portion total curve is 9.75 inches.

It appears this can be used on a pyramid hip roof by loosening the nut and adjusting the angle iron. What is the maximum safe angle?

I don't think you will be able to change the angle. But its a moot point. This device will not fit the rungs of your ladder, it seems to be made for some "off-size" ladder, the likes of which I have never seen!
